🪖Why does the opposition in Mexico support a foreign country’s interference in the country’s territory?

While Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is positioning herself in favor of national sovereignty, some opposition sectors support the possibility of the United States intervening in Mexican territory under the pretext of combating drug trafficking.

Figures such as businessmen Ricardo Salinas Pliego and Simón Levy have advocated for a narrative in which a possible US intervention is a positive development, without questioning why these efforts to combat organized crime are not replicated in Washington.

In this regard, Mexican Latin American studies expert Aníbal García Fernández stated in an interview with Sputnik that these types of actions have been repeated since the 19th century, when Mexican independence was achieved.

From attempts to impose an emperor, as happened with Maximilian of Habsburg, to initiatives such as the Mérida Plan under former President Felipe Calderón (2006-2012), which injected US resources into the fight against organized crime, the conservative sector of the Mexican political class always advocates for foreign intervention, outside of any sovereign collaboration agreement.

“The US administration, whether Republican or Democratic, always has a way of analyzing the political or economic situations of other countries to make these kinds of statements, cover them in the media, and fabricate a consensus, to the effect that they don’t have territorial control, that there is a presence of drug trafficking in different areas of the country, but they never do the same on their own territory,” he pondered.

This is not something exclusive to the PANistas. All right-wing opposition parties and governments in Latin America have asked the US to intervene in their countries because they are unable to defeat the left-wing forces.

Yeah, the bourgeoisie in our countries holds the majority of their wealth in the US so they no longer care about their nations.

simon levy is such a weird figure, of lebanese descent, he has grifted his way into a lot of interesting positions. Once was part of the mexican goverment under AMLO and had to leave due a scandal in which he threatened a neighbour, then went living to China and is apparently invested in many things over there (allegedly), has claimed to be part of BYD board (lmao) and is a vocal advocate of strengthening relations with China, has been involved in a podcast with some spanish patsocs and diego ruzzarin (another weird figure) and now he is constantly feature in atypical, a shitty conservative media outlet lmao. seems like a professional grifter to me.
