  • You have to love a city with its warts and all to like Hamilton. The rent is heinous. I love it here, it’s my adopted hometown, but there are difficult parts because of the unhoused people, the addiction, and just a lot of crumbling shitty buildings.

The surrounding suburbs (Ancaster, Dundas, Stoney Creek), the west end and the mountain are all very well appointed by and large with lovely homes and well off neighbours. But it’s also like living in the desert. I want to be in the thick of it all, good and bad, right downtown, even among all the problems the unhoused folks can cause. (Unfortunately it’s just a really difficult problem for individuals to solve, and the government here sure doesn’t care beyond giving them some shacks from Temu, and the rest is largely dependent on volunteers). You have to decide if you want to dive in with both feet or live on the edge. Nothing wrong with either, but I want to live in community with everyone, even when they are hard to love and help.

  • That’s fine. I don’t want to argue with someone who put an effort into their mixed breed but is mindful of their genetics as well.

But I also have to point out that I have a mixed pit in my building and it broke away from its owner (who clearly has never had a dog before and has gotten swept up into the propaganda) and attacked a dog who was merely urinating and ripped its leg open. The owner was then subsequently resistant to paying the vet bill and walking it on a muzzle as she was ordered to by animal control.

I will also say that my friend was an ER clerk and one night the paramedics patched in to tell them they were bringing in a person whose friend’s pit mix had ripped off their arm simply because they were walking it and tried to pull it back from running after another dog. It turned on them and mauled them, until their arm was ripped off, and the cops had to shoot it to get it to stop. Never made the news.

It is 100% necessary to be mindful of what their genetics is and how they can turn on you.

  • My nurse friend had some dude in the ER a few months ago who stuck his wedding ring on his penis and couldn’t get it off for what are obvious reasons to anybody but this guy. When this kind of thing happens the fire department has to come cut it off, so not only do you get a firefighter touching your junk and seeing the dumb thing you did, but also now your dick is a useless noodle, and you may spend the rest of your life reflecting on how easy the Internet makes acquiring safe items for such activities, and yet you chose a tiny gold band.
