BERLIN, Aug 7 (Reuters) - A bus driver knocked an explosive-laden drone out of the air, potentially preventing an attack this week at a German airport that serves as a major NATO and cargo logistics hub, a senior lawmaker said on Friday.
The man spotted the drone flying low while he was working at Leipzig/Halle airport late on Tuesday, then kicked out at it in what Detlef Seif described as a courageous but dangerous act.
The drone, which prosecutors said was equipped with professional explosives and a detonator, then crashed nearby, Seif, from the governing conservative CDU party, told journalists.
This is something a lot of people would like, but right now that feature is marked “not planned” by the developers since it would be difficult to implement. That might change if they get more funding / get through more of the backlog / someone else works on it.

You can totally send off multiple messages to moderators and see who responds first. I will say though that if it’s not urgent, the mod may just be too busy to sit down at a computer and get through those messages.
Personally I look through the profile and see which mods have made a post or comment recently, and message based on that.
Personally, when I’m reading an article, I skim past the parts that explain climate change, unless it has some new bit of information (ex. updates to historical trends). It’s not because I doubt climate change, but because I’m pretty familiar with the core points already.
I think it is helpful to talk about it in longer articles where you have room to dive into the topic, and put the current topic into a relevant wider context. However, I don’t think we should require it for the sake of mentioning it. It’s not effective at changing minds when its done like that.
I agree that the last article should have included the wider context. I would also be concerned if there is a growing pattern of not mentioning it when it needs to be. On this last point, while it’s more difficult, I would prefer if they analyzed sentiment and phrasing rather than counting mentions.
I agree with the point you are making, that this study shows that there is a risk of people using these systems to generate biological weapons.
However, in this particular study, they created bacteriophages. Those are viruses that attack bacteria, and the focus of that research is usually around creating antibiotic treatments (fight bacterial infections with viruses that kill them). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacteriophage
The point was about whether medical data can be good, and people carefully explained the cases where it can be good and why its bad in this situation.
If you’re saying that old fashioned research was helpful but the modern “AI” junk is stupid, then yes that is the exact point I was making.

Health research needs accurate data, and it’s how we figure out which medications/procedures are better/worse/harmful. In normal circumstances, that research would protect the people involved
However, in some situations, that potential benefit isn’t worth the potential harm from the data being abused. I can see why people would prefer to limit that data in the states, even if that is to the detriment of those seeking care
Based on the way the new CDC director responded, it sounds like she wants the data for harmful reasons, rather than helping improve care
Yea I wouldn’t think twice if someone said “sub” or “sublemmy”, but “subreddit” would be confusing anywhere that isn’t reddit

To clarify what happened with your earlier request, the default Lemmy UI is a bit weird when it comes to appointing someone as a mod. The UI for it only appears when clicking on a post or comment by the user in the community.
Meanwhile, some alternative UIs like Photon let you add new mods directly. That’s the method I prefer to use, since there is less back and forth. That is how I was able to add you both just now, without needing any more comments/posts.
You should also be able to use Photon’s mod tools now, and you can find those settings at https://photon.lemmy.ca/c/onguardforthee/settings
