Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•British tourists flooded the battlefield of Waterloo after the battle looking for souvenirs.
4·2 days agoDid this really happen? They sent the calvary to mill around the squares accomplishing nothing?

11·2 days agoYeah, I was griping about the poor title. It should read “fanless and pumpless.”

11·2 days agoI’m confused. Does it have a fan and pump or do they just pump and fan less than usual?
There was water flowing. You can’t see it from this angle.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Surprised to see Canada in the (very short) list of countries who accepted the invitation to Trump's Board of Peace. How did the public take it?
5·3 days agoI haven’t heard a lot of people talking about it. I think, in general, Canadians have been impressed with Carney and respect his intellect and political skills. I think there’s a common feeling that they’ll go along with his descisions with guarded expectation.

Science@mander.xyz•Sex matters: European urban birds flee approaching women sooner than approaching men
6·3 days agoA couple of the possible reasons, according to the discussion section of the article, was that 1) women may have historically hunted for smaller prey (birds) thus installing a fear of women and 2) it may be an olfactory response to women.
I heard it’s not good for your health.

I noticed a few ads for flamenco lessons. I don’t think it would be hard to find one.
Wait. You guys look at posters’ names?

HistoryArt@piefed.social•Imagining of the Maya settlement of Copan in what-is-now Honduras
1·5 days agoA supposition really. The Maya had an elite that used the peasants around them for work. In any poorish community, the drive for neat and tidy falls way down the list of priorities.
Awesome show. I loved it.

Because I didn’t notice it and we’ve already left the area.
Que lastima. No lo vi.
