1·12 天前That is fun to know!
With regards to why the culture hasn’t changed. To be honest nuclear power is really safe. We used to play little thought experiments on the boat about how we would get a meltdown to happen and it’s hard
It goes beyond safety systems and automatic protective actions. The design of the cores themselves makes it so you have to jury rig a situation where you get prompt criticality (reactor criticality due entirely to prompt neutrons vice delayed+prompt; very very bad). Frankly operators are there for regulatory reasons; nuclear operations are so safe and formulaic you could run a 1GW plant with ~3 people total given all the available automations.
So why change the culture? The program has literally never had an incident in 70 years of operation. Not one fission product release in close to a century. We have no blood to write rules in.

1·15 天前You don’t want to know about the number of times a fast recovery has been done asleep or a full plant startup is done by an RO who is actively blackout drunk.
We all have, at least, one of those stories.

9·17 天前Yeah that’s… Not how the Navy does things.
Sleep deprivation is the norm across the Navy, particularly in the engineering community and particularly in nuclear engineering.
I would commonly go 36 hours without sleep, generally a few times a month. People keep this up for decades.

It’s not the first pick, more like second or third, but we’re WELL past that point.

34·2 个月前Is this bait or are you actually 14? There are a group of people engaged in genocide and performing a fascist coup, this guy ran on a “stop the genocide and fascist coup” platform. Barring the existence of a legitimate alternative (and let’s be honest, there wasn’t) please, for the love of god, explain to me why I should care about literally anything but the fact that he wants to stop the genocide and the fascists?
When the gestapo come to your door and you need to defend yourself are you going to not reach for a gun because that would imply tacit approval for the gun lobby?

36·2 个月前I don’t think he cares about non-whites like you may. I think he hates capitalists, or billionaires, or whatever homunculus he’s created in his mind that embodies the ruling class. That’s useful; a bitter, violent man with a grudge. That’s good, that’s very good. The US war machine is built off the backs of people like him for a reason.
I think given the opportunity he would be an asset in harming US imperial interests. He’s an angry killer and we gave him something to go after. I’m starting to notice a lot of “leftists” don’t have the stomach for the kinds of things were going to have to do to bring every single fascist in this country to heel.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, don’t you have like an hourly report to be sending to your supervisor fed boy?

56·2 个月前His opponent is complicit in genocide and the fascist takeover of the united States.
Precisely how many white women need to be raped to be equivalent to that? It sounds like one. This is simple utilitarian calculus. He represented more net good than his opponent. We have all collectively agreed, based on this race, that genocide and fascism are fine as long as no white women are hurt.

15·2 个月前All that is true.
And with any luck he may have been willing to show the same behavior to the enemy. The left could have had their very own psychopathic killer who likely would have been very amenable to brutally crushing republican opposition In a bloody pogrom.
Alas, we’ll just lose sanctimoniously.

1·2 个月前I appreciate your sense of hope and optimism though I agree that we will certainly not see eye to eye here.
From my position I view the United States as the most direct and immediate threat to long term growth for the human race. I’m an engineer first and everything else second so for me it’s a question of optimization. The US is holding back more efficient systems of resource allocation which is sub-optimal and that is fundamentally unacceptable.
I’ve appreciated the back and forth :)

3·2 个月前What do you mean we’re not at the point of gestapo pulling people from their beds? What the hell is ICE doing?
You act as though this is still a legitimate government with legitimate laws. It is not. The US government is no longer legitimate; we are in a high functioning failed state. The legality of the rioters is irrelevant, they are a part of our tribe and our tribe is targeted by a rival tribe. We cannot act like there is such a thing as the rule of law, we will bury ourselves in our sanctimoniousness.
The goal at this point is embrace, extend, extinguish.
EDIT: Also, to be clear, when you say things were going back to normal you’re referring to the US just being a regular imperialist hell hole? “Holding steady” in that context is equally unacceptable.

3·2 个月前Two of them were not even present at the time of the shooting. This regime used NSPM-7 and the PA to get leftists on terrorism charges. They will do this again, it will be worse next time.
We are very close to masked men knocking down our doors and dragging us out in the middle of the night.
Do you think this is just going to go away? That everything is just going to work out? The tyrants will stop at precisely this amount of abuse of power and no further? Not once in history has a slide into authoritarianism just “worked out”.

Thankfully it’s bad enough now that a plurality of young people can’t own property.
My wife and I just had our first, we both make engineer salaries, we can’t afford a home.
Now, to be clear, that’s a good thing; private property is theft. I myself don’t have any interest in home ownership but the fact that even we can’t hopefully ensures that the working class is sufficiently poor enough not be lulled back into complacency.
The bourgeois won’t give up capital without a, literal, fight and the proletariat need to be sufficiently desperate to take it by force.
