Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft wants to replace its entire C and C++ codebase, perhaps by 2030English
2·3 months agoHonestly migrating from one language to another night actually be one of the best use cases for AI, if you don’t change the architecture much it should be doable especially if it’s a well tested codebase.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Gamers Are Overwhelmingly Negative About Gen AI in Video Games, but Attitudes Vary by Gender, Age, and Gaming Motivations.
1·3 months agoI haven’t tried with API yet. With local one it’s super quick though, it adds maybe a couple of seconds at most.
If you have a GPU and want to try it with local one there is a plugin for Godot and unity called “Nobody who” they have implemented the RAG approach out of the box with examples as well. So it wasn’t something I came up with.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Gamers Are Overwhelmingly Negative About Gen AI in Video Games, but Attitudes Vary by Gender, Age, and Gaming Motivations.
2·3 months agoWhat helped me in my project was a RAG implementation. So instead of trying to have all the information in the prompt, which becomes inconsistent if it becomes too big (especially when working on local llm), I can have quite a big knowledge base in a RAG. Then when being promoted it’s a two step process, first search the RAG for the best match in the knowledge base, then Feed that to the LLM to generate the answers. You could also store noteworthy stuff in the rag on the fly.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Gamers Are Overwhelmingly Negative About Gen AI in Video Games, but Attitudes Vary by Gender, Age, and Gaming Motivations.
11·3 months agoBecause it’s difficult to fit to a world. You need a pretty good GPU of which a lot of the memory will be take up by the LLM running locally. That means you basically can not use it while also having other fancy graphics at the same time. So you would basically have a not so demanding looking game with high GPU requirements.
Also it’s quite difficult to steer the NPCs to be consistent. In my free time I’m working on a small project right now to have a game centered around llm NPCs, but it’s a lot of work to steer them to be consistent with the world you place them in. Because they always go with a “yes and” approach, so it’s easy to end up in a situation where they make up things that contradict the reality of the game.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•My culture also loves music, dancing and telling stories
1·3 months agoDrinks jeah, food I would say partially only. I mean it’s good high quality food, but again it’s more like you have it because you need it. It’s not like you will have multiple things or food to share on the table at all times like in other cultures.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•My culture also loves music, dancing and telling stories
14·4 months agoBut the importance of food can be very different still. As a German I would say food is not a huge part of social culture. Like yes we eat together when we celebrate, but the food is usually just a necessity instead of the main focus

Technology@lemmy.world•Valve dev counters calls to scrap Steam AI disclosures, says it's a "technology relying on cultural laundering, IP infringement, and slopification"English
2·4 months agoJean completely agree, but for me that just underlined the point above of making it more granular. But there will be almost no big games where you can say truly nothing was done by the AI.

Technology@lemmy.world•Valve dev counters calls to scrap Steam AI disclosures, says it's a "technology relying on cultural laundering, IP infringement, and slopification"English
8·4 months agoIt’s like hard to draw a line as well. If I take a picture with my phone today of the city I live in and use it in a game, the phone applies some AI filters automatically.

Europe@feddit.org•Germany’s Car Industry in Trouble — 200,000 Jobs Could VanishEnglish
2·5 months agoIt’s also making it look more dramatic. Changing to EV comes with less jobs anyway,.since electric motors are just easier to build. And also a big chunk of the workforce is heading to retirement age right now anyway

222·5 months agoBut you wouldn’t have to simulate the whole universe, only one brain. There is no way for you to know, if everything your brain experiences is caused by it actually happening, or just the neutrons being triggered in that way from outside.

3·5 months agoI worded it badly, I meant security in terms of arms and ammunition. Basically for quite a while they stopped their weapons being sold to the Ukraine, so basically showing the weapons you buy from them don’t truly belong to you

The question is, if it has to. If it’s a nie he product this might be cheaper than inventing something
