My work gives parental leave based on whether they’re the primary caretaker or the secondary one. The primary gets 6 months, the secondary gets 3.
What decider whether you’re primary or secondary? Simple. If your partner is taking more than 3 months they’re primary.
What this means in practice is that for US-based employees pretty much everyone at my company is the primary caretaker since few people’s spouses even have the option for more than 3 months.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you could become a character and enter any universe and that becomes your permanent life what universe would you pick?
7·17 days agoI need to know more about it. Is this a “you get to be part of the main crew” thing, or just “you exist in that universe?” Because it’d be cool if I could be a Bob-like AI in the Bobiverse, but if I were simply transported into the Bobiverse in 2026 well… I’m not sure I’d even notice.
Ohhh right that makes sense. I was only thinking of ways to use rocks to boil water to make electricity. So I missed geothermal and disregarded photovoltaics.
I’m gonna need help identifying all of them. So far I have burn them, smush glowing ones together, and reflect radiation with them.
Especially when you make a good cuppa with it.

Linux@programming.dev•Why are so many Distros based of Ubuntu and not Debian?
5·23 days agoAmongst other things, the amount of work Ubuntu does providing kernels is something that many distros want to take advantage of.
The irony of this comment is that one of the few sane things Arizona does is staying on standard time year-round.
Dude I have sunlight until 8 PM. It’s March.
The American Medical Association disagrees. This article from the journal of clinical sleep medicine helps debunk those myths.
You can get sunlight after work without harming people’s health.
