I really hope they’re being sincere about these statements.

I really hope they’re being sincere about these statements.

I remember there was a rumor going around Twitter when Palworld first launched that Pocketpair had used AI for some of their character designs, and there was some backlash, but it turned out to be false.
When was that officially confirmed? I’ve been waiting for an answer to this question for years. I had heard they had denied using AI for character designs, but I wasn’t sure if that was true or not.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think having a DRM-encumbered application running in the background that relies on another large application to launch just so you can have a fancy wallpaper is kind of dumb.

Who actually ran HL1 at 1600x1200 or 1024x768 in 1998 unless they had a high-end PC? The minimum requirements basically expect 320x240.
As an aside, I’m really, really tired of people quoting the larger number after the smaller number for landscape resolutions. X goes BEFORE Y, damn it! I know this is the publication’s fault, because they did the same thing in a different article.

This reminds me of that guy who made a ramdrive on his 3090 several years back and ran Crysis 3 from it. That guy pisses me off, because I’ve never owned a GPU with enough vram to do that and at this rate I probably never will.

This is why I wish KDE still did LTS releases. Even though I use Wayland on my systems, I know it doesn’t have feature parity with X11, and that some users may still need X11 for different reasons. If 95% of users are using Wayland, that means there’s 5% that aren’t, and 5% is not an insignificant number. I know there’s other DEs that people can use if they need X11, but that’s missing the point.
I really don’t like this whole “march of progress, legacy can go to hell” mentality.

Good. I hope this puts a dent in the number of new projects that use AI. I also hope Flathub implements a system to clearly flag existing submissions that have used it.

580 is the latest Nvidia driver branch that still supports 10-series cards, IIRC.
If Nvidia hadn’t headhunted Nouveau’s main developer to work on the open source drivers for their later cards, maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess…

Well this sucks. I use Flatpak all the time, so I guess this means I’m going to be even more dependent on systemd than I was before.
I don’t hate systemd as much as most of its detractors; in fact I like how easy it makes it to manage services, but with the age verification attestation controversy, and the performance improvements I witnessed switching my Pi-Hole box from Debian to Alpine, these things have caused me to question my use of systemd.

I don’t remember how long ago I last checked, but I remember them being expensive well over six months ago. The price you quoted, 105 EUR, comes out to around $168.71 CAD, which is similar to what I remember seeing.

Good luck getting a Blu-Ray drive for a decent price. They’re crazy expensive, and I don’t think they even make them for PCs anymore.

That might help to a small extent. I’d be somewhat worried about this feature discouraging people from engaging with smaller communities, but I imagine the active members count does this already.

Looks like some of these could be helpful, along with the Lemmy411 community itself. Thanks!

N64 controllers with this layout always annoy me, because you can’t use them to play Goldeneye or Perfect Dark with the d-pad under your left thumb, and the analog stick under your right thumb. 1.2 Solitaire layout with the left grip on a standard controller is my preferred way to play these games.

Are you using SteamInput for the desktop controller input? (In steam, go to Settings -> Controller -> scroll to the bottom to Non-Game Controller Layouts, and enable SteamInput for Desktop Layout)?
I believe so, but in my case it’s Settings -> Controller -> Show Advanced Settings, then under Non-Game Controller Layouts I have the Desktop Layout.
I don’t see an option to enable or disable Steam Input. This is the same path regardless of whether I open Steam’s settings in Desktop Mode or in Gaming Mode.
Since it’s supposed to switch when you launch a game, I assume that only applies to Steam games? Would I be able to have this trigger for non-Steam games if I added them to my Steam library?

So I’m guessing that if I launch a game through desktop mode, my binds will conflict unless I do something to prevent them from conflicting, like setting a modifier that needs to be triggered to use my binds?

Proton’s a little more recent than that. I still remember the bad old days of Steam on Linux from 2013-2017 where Proton didn’t exist yet, and running the Windows version of Steam through WINE was a PITA. Heck, Proton didn’t really start to get good until about 2021.
They should’ve done this as soon as the problem was found out. I’m not sure whether this is “better late than never”, or too late to really matter.
