It would face some form of growing pains definitely, but I think it would be far better in the long run. Especially if trump tries to shut down trade between US and Canada
I see the prospect of invading Canada as very unlikely. If the Trump did try to acquire Canada, I would imagine it more being done through some scheme rather than an outright invasion. Maybe a far-right leader gets into power in Canada. In exchange for a large bribe, top Canadian government officials simply accede to Trump’s request for annexation. The right wing leader announces that “Canada is broke, and we have no choice but to do this.” Or they would paint it as a North American EU. And before anyone knows what’s happening, US troops are already over the boarder and all over the populated regions of Canada. The deal offered to Canadian leaders would be, “accept this large bribe and allow peaceful annexation or try to fight the whole US military, and end up being tried for trumped-up war crime charges after the war.”
