I honestly don’t think you have to believe Trump is a Russian asset to make sense of this terrible behaviour All you have to take into account is that Trump serves only Trump.

Other presidents would look at the situation in Ukraine and try to get an outcome that is beneficial to the United States, its geopolitical goals and the goals of its allies (Ukraine and Europe). But Trump doesn’t care about serving the best interests of the United States or its allies. He only cares about his own PR. And in Trump’s mind, at least, the idea of ending the war quickly when “Biden couldn’t do that” is a PR win that he can claim. And he gets to pretend he’s the genius dealmaker.

Of course, in reality this is utterly ridiculous. Anyone can come to a deal if they just give the other side whatever they want. It’s not hard, Biden could’ve done that too. But I don’t think Trump cares. He only cares about scoring what he thinks will be a PR victory.

Because, again, Trump doesn’t care about doing things that are beneficial to the United States or its allies, only about things that are beneficial to him personally.

All that you’ve wrote also greatly explains why he started to work for russians as Krasnov since his first bankruptcy. Only because of his own interests and willingness to get power at any cost for the US or any other part of the world. I think russians also jumped to the same conclusion as you did and found how to use it.
