Summary
A family with four U.S. citizen children was deported to Mexico last month, including a 10-year-old girl recovering from brain surgery.
The Texas Civil Rights Project filed a complaint alleging CBP denied medical care to the girl and detained U.S. citizen children “in deplorable conditions” before removing them to Mexico “where their lives are in peril.”
The parents, who were seeking T visas as human trafficking victims, were arrested at an immigration checkpoint while traveling for their daughter’s medical care.
Border czar Tom Homan has stated “families can be deported together” regardless of citizenship status.
The United States is not going to magically get better because one singular person in Florida disagrees with everything.
every peaceful protest against this is illegally broken up and police regularly beat protesters half to death with zero repercussions, the current president calls protesters terrorists and regularly muses about having judges thrown in jail, the supreme court has pretty much admitted they can do whatever they want and every single one of them is public about them being bought out.
the original comment was saying how depressing the news cycle is and I commented how I deal with it. this isn’t a lala land where people can suddenly change everything. this is exactly how the government is going to be for the next four years so I don’t understand the point of pretending anyone, let alone a lower middle class person living psycheck to psycheck has any effect over it.
feel free to tell me in detail what you’ve done protest wise this week if you don’t agree and has had a substantial impact. I’ve donated to a few charities that are struggling with food and supply issues in my area and they’ve been appreciative of it but that’s currently all I can do.
I mean it sure would do more than pretending it’s not happening - but I get it - most Germans preferred to pretend they couldn’t smell the smoke either.
And again you don’t even have to risk your own safety by protesting - you could at least join a local community organizing group to help people most affected.
I’m sure you may think one person can’t make a difference but I can guarantee that even a single person more that’s helping out with mutual aid would be met with appreciation anywhere. Still good on you for financing charities - that is usually the very first step.
Also this isn’t a sprint - it’s a marathon - expecting protests now to have any immediate impact is just setting you up for failure - these fights have been fought for generations - so lock in and get ready to resist not just these 4 but the next 40 years.
And sorry if this feels overwhelming and you don’t think you have the capacity - but even doing 1 day of volunteering a month is a good starting point.
