Not a single Roman work of art depicts the salute. Don’t you think that’s a little fishy? There is evidence that it actually originated from the National Fascist Party, under Mussolini. Suffice to say there’s no good evidence that it originated from ancient Rome as opposed to it being a relatively new thing starting from the turn of the 20th century and originating in fascism.
