Is significantly reducing the cost of life saving medicine and giving families $300 a month per kid not left wing policy?

You’re either incredibly uninformed or purposely undermining the left I can’t tell which.

child tax credit only lasted one year

        not true at all

the cost reduction was only for the elderly

Not true and even if it was 100% elderly people it is still a bill that grants significantly cheaper drugs for 65million people of a demographic that is the most in need of perscription medication. Which is a objectively a good bill and furthers left wing ideals. If you dont agree I genuinely dont believe you are on the left since you actively want a worse world.

Are you getting your info from google AI summaries, im genuinely curious how you are so confidently wrong.

          https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/09/politics/inflation-reduction-act-medicare-insulin-cap/index.html

Senior citizens and other Medicare enrollees can now get a break on the cost of their insulin.

They won’t pay more than $35 a month for each insulin prescription that’s covered by their Medicare Part D plan. And they won’t be subject to a deductible for insulin.

          https://www.cbsnews.com/news/biden-budget-tax-child-tax-credit-ctc-eitc-who-qualifies/

The CTC isn’t a new tax credit — it’s been around since the 1990s. But as the nation struggled to emerge from the pandemic in 2021, lawmakers expanded the $2,000 credit to as much as $3,600. As part of that expansion, families received half of the CTC in monthly checks over six months, providing them with as much as $300 per child for each of those months.

That expanded tax benefit, which proved to be immensely popular with families, also helped lift millions of kids out of poverty. Once it expired in 2022, the poverty rate for children soared.

Wild how you can read all this and walk away thinking I’m the one who is wrong. They made the claim drug price reduction was only for elderly then linked a source that said it was for elderly and other Medicare enrollees. They made the claim CTC only lasted a year then linked a source that said it has been around since 1997 and is still around.

This should be a massive wakeup call to any reasonable person. If you still can’t see that his statements were completely false.

So you linked something that said that the CTC didnt last a single year and that the drug price reduction wasnt only for old people. Thanks for proving me right now can I get an admission that you were completely wrong?

You know medicare is primarily for retirees, right?

Edit: since you only read the first sentence I quoted from CBS, here’s the second:

But as the nation struggled to emerge from the pandemic in 2021, lawmakers expanded the $2,000 credit to as much as $3,600.

              and the fourth

Once it expired in 2022, the poverty rate for children soared.

This is liberalism 101. If it helps the poor and costs money, they’ll means test it until its underfunded and scrap it.

Especially if it’s like the student loan shit and can’t try implementing after spending an ungodly amount of time trying to setup means testing then get to blame gop for it being stopped. Bonus when just dropping it after because people wanted you to keep trying.

Why are you using the word primarily when the original comment said “only”. Just admit Medicare doesnt only include old people, its fine.

“Once it expired in 2022” they’re not talking about the CTC expiring. There they are talking about the recovery spending plan ending. The CTC still continued after 2022.

no, just the bit Biden did, the thing that was cited as one of his major accomplishments.

and c’mon; Insulin is cheaper for Medicare recipients. Insulin is cheaper for the elderly. It is, in effect, the same statement. You really quibbling over wording to try and scrape together a point?

Medicare includes disabled people of all ages and Insulin is used for people of all ages. Sure majority of the users are elderly but so what elder will always require the most medical care and any effort to bring that cost down for them is great.

You’re the one trying to attack the policy saying it ONLY affected elderly. It didnt only affectly elderly and that’s only affecting elderly isnt a reason against it.

It should be, but Americans still dont want universal healthcare. The last polling I saw had it at just over 50% supporting Universal healthcare. If you want to implement a huge change like universal healthcare you probably want to have at least 70% of the people on board. Otherwise you implement it and half the country tries to drag it down and make it unusable. Look at how the right wing in the UK is trying to destroy their national healthcare system.

Not at all. Making families buy life-saving medicine, at whatever price, is in fact the opposite of left-wing policy. Universal, single-payer health care is just centrist policy in many countries.

The extra $300 per month would be a better argument if they tried to keep it going instead of letting it lapse…

Its ending under trump. The 1 year of significantly boosted CTC was government assistance given to people. The right wing version of that would have been tax cuts for business. Could he have passed legislation that kept ctc at that amount, probably not and it would likely be repealed by Trump. Just because something could be better doesn’t mean it isn’t good. If you use “it could be better” as an justification for something being bad then people can say the same thing about things you mention. Oh yeah he passed boosted CTC forever well he should have increased it more, he should have given to to all families, he should just give that money to everyone. Lets be realistic instead of delusional so things in the real world can actually get better.

The person claimed the child tax credit ended after only a year. Thats incorrect. Biden temporary increase to the child tax credit was allocated for a single year. After that the child tax credit continued.

The significant backsliding on child poverty that occurred after Congress allowed the Child Tax Credit expansion to expire underscores the fact that the number of children living in poverty is a policy choice. Recently there have been encouraging signs of bipartisan interest in a modest expansion. On January 31, 2024, in a strong bipartisan vote, the House passed a tax bill that included a Child Tax Credit expansion that, while far smaller than the Rescue Plan expansion, would help about 16 million children and lift a half million or more children above the poverty line in 2025.[1] Unfortunately, the legislation has been stuck in the Senate.

It ended under Biden. They didn’t continue under the dems watch.

Again the issue is the dems keep ignoring easy wins to keep their donors happy

                CTC only lasted 1 year

wait no I mean CTC ended under biden

well actually it expires under trump but somehow this is still bidens fault.

Its actually gross how hard you try and undermine the left. Even when you are shown things that directly show ctc existing for more than a year throughout bidens entire term you never reconsider and think oh maybe I was wrong its not the dems who killed this. What would it take for you to blame trump? I bet even if trump used an executive order to remove the CTC you would be there saying “noo biden should have done more. Never vote dems” its almost like you want a right wing government.

Oh thats my bad, I thought this comment chain was coming off the statement “the child tax credit only lasted one year, and the cost reduction was only for the elderly”

I guess your argument is that the policy was right wing because it didnt do enough. Is that correct?

My point is that dems are left wing because they try and push the country left.
