When we have arguments like this happening on the subcommunity, and people are speaking out about it, I feel like I have to speak up and address this before it becomes a massive problem.
I’m scared, I don’t know what’s going on, I don’t-
While i don’t think those communities are particularly interesting (for me personally) i also don’t think that there is any inherent problem with those communities. There was an argument that involved one new user, who was probably unnecessarily combative and has since been given a ban (temporary or permanent, i don’t know). Let’s not make a mountain out of a molehill. One user stirring up some drama, which was then resolved in less than 24 hours, does not indicate that there is a systemic problem with an entire community. The mods did their job. All looks chill to me.
was it unnecessary drama? i’m kind of starting to come around to the idea that this site, including me, needs to reconsider some deeply-entrenched ideas. i’m not gonna speak on the user’s ban because i don’t know exactly what comment caused it, but it’s rarely the case that these long-standing ideas change completely without friction. this likely could have happened in any community, but if anything, this would make the slop communities good for the site.
Yeah we need to be looking at Philosemitism and how pervasive it is in western culture and how an attack on Jewish privilege might feel like anti-semitism to Jewish people. Like how people with White privilege get butt hurt just for being reminded of PoC existing.
