If people weren’t in financial distress, then businesses would not be. But no more off topic questions please, this AMA is about Ubuntu.

Yeah, this article doesn’t support any of OP’s assertions. When I saw the real title, I’d assumed this was a small point in the article, but it’s basically unrelated.

Their governance seems to be structured in such a way that regardless of differing public opinions, they’re all forced to act as a hive mind anyway.

That goes for any nation though. Others by default lump all together, and also assign anyone of that country the official position on things as well, until proven otherwise. All brits are either charles or the CAM ON INGERLAND guy. All germans are bavarians loving beer and cars. The French eat frogs and are assholes.

      And so on.

Especially considering we have at least three separatist movements. We’re hardly a united people.

But also the logic just doesn’t work. For example:

Scotland invented the bicycle. But they don’t trust Scottish engineers. So they spend billions of dollars(?!) to buy Ford Mondeos and Volkswagen Golfs. At the expense of their own economy.

      It’s just nonsense.

Because for many decades nearly everyone in the UK watched all the same TV. What was specific in the UK, compared to other countries, was there were only ~4 channels to choose from most of that time. And those few channels got huge budgets to work with. You can tell from the quality of the advertising, unlike the trash commercials in countries with 20 plus channels. Unpredictable UK weather too helped people sit down in front of the box. Long running soaps were treated as real life. Everyone saw the same comedies, and told the same jokes and catch phrases. If ever there was a hive mind, that was it. It’s probably coming to a close now. But the damage is done. And it’s good night from me. And good night from him!

There’s an assumption all people from/under current and former world powers are hive minds- GB, China, US, Russia, etc.

“Invented” is doing a lot of lifting here. And Ubuntu is a global project, currently headquartered in England.

Best not to editorialise, OP. Opinions and interpretations belong in the comments rather than the headline.

This community doesn’t have a title rule?

Still, wtf, OP: neither Microsoft nor Ubuntu are mentioned at all, and the headline is

Number of UK businesses in financial distress ‘at two-decade high’

    Booo!

Article is about one thing. The title mixes other things into it. Not good.

Ignoring that, I agree that businesses, not just the ones from UK, should give Ubuntu, LibreOffice/Collabora and NextCloud a try. They will be better served and reduce their expenses.
