Does everyone automatically get a cool hebrew name if they become/are born jewish, or is that a thing from specific branches?

Or is it tied to living in Israel? If so, what name is used on a ID? If IDs are written in hebrew does the muslim population within Israel also have a hebrew name on their ID?

Sorry for overloading with questions, your comment just made me curious and i am a nerd.

Fashions come and go. I don’t know what is a cool Hebrew name. What makes it cool? I don’t know what the giyur procedure wirh regard to names. You can look up baby names frequencies in each country by year.

Most people just want to give their children names that won’t stick out. I once suggested someone name their child “Superfly” but it was forgotten and discarded like yesterday’s leftover pasta.

I don’t know what is on others’ IDs, Muslim or Druze or Bahai or Christian. Hebrew is the official language, so maybe, probably, but it is just that name transliterated into Hebrew.

I am not an expert on anything and I am sorry I cannot give definitive answers.

Thank you for answering my questions.

With cool hebrew name, i mean the ones that use these stylized cryptic characters. So i guess thats all of them.

But what if your given name isn’t translateable? Use phonetic translation instead?

I assume the name you mentioned is hebrew for the color red and “adom” how you proncounce it using the latin alphabet. But could you also translate it so the pronounciation in hebrew is “red” or would that be nonsensical?

But what if your given name isn’t translateable? Use phonetic translation instead?

Languages around here are all just mishmashes of older and/or younger languages. It’s not Lojban. Seems to me like they are all just winging it, with the odd Hebrew Academy decision trying to stop the crawling chaos. Just aim in the general direction of sounding like the other language. There are various “khet” and “ain” and “pey” that don’t translate well. We don’t even have a “th” sound.

I assume the name you mentioned is hebrew for the color red and “adom” how you proncounce it using the latin alphabet. But could you also translate it so the pronounciation in hebrew is “red” or would that be nonsensical?

adom is both the colour and the adjective signifying a red male.

aduma is adjective of a red female.

if you wanted to write “red” in Hebrew and know exactly (sorta) how to pronounce it, you would need diacritics (the weird points and lines under above and in between letters) to denote the vowel sounds.

I do not have them diacritics here, so it is “missing writing”, “כתיב חסר”, that is, missing the diacritics:

                  רד

                  red

In Yiddish you would have something like the “aioue” of English where these vowel sound letters are placed right after the consonant letters.

                  רעד

                  red

I just got an email from Doug H. Hound, he doesn’t appreciate being drawn in a proximity of that mysterious symbol.
