Only reason I was still there was for my local state and city subreddits. Both of them have a discord now and both also have talks of moving to matrix if discord moves to age verification so I have 0 reason to stuck around.
“During October, we have seen that search traffic has dropped by more than 1 million referrals on average per week. If this rate of decline continues, current trends would suggest that total DAUqs [or daily active unique users] could fall in Q4, by a low-double-digit percentage from our current base of 130 million DAUqs,” Huffman wrote.
Weird that not allowing people to use your site would lower the number of people using your site.
And today in other news, more news at 8!
And permanently banning anyone that says anything remotely like what the advertisers don’t like.
and those shadowbans has mostly forced people to just lurk. the serial ban evaders just adapt and make hordes of accounts as normal, although im hearing they are having a difficult time doing so.
also trying to not saying the drop is actually openAI not referencing the site as much anymore because banning people that were producing content isnt as good anymore. plus only going after the lowest hanging fruit of bots/spammers.
He’s so unbearably dumb…
It’s just shitty that so much useful information is on reddit.
It’s ok. The AI companies will scrape it and spit it out for you.
It’s ok. The AI companies will scrape it and might spit it out for you.
Correction bolded, but it was sad that was my first thought too
The first result is always “Why are asking us when you can just google it?”
It’s like repeatedly hitting your genitalia with a wooden mallet and acting smug about it, if someone is asking for assistance.
I am trying to stop answering questions that I think are quickly searchable with “you have the entire world’s knowledge in your pocket”. It’s been a long time since trustworthy information has been easy to find on the internet.
The people that created that info can recreate it elsewhere
Maybe, but that’s a lot of work.
“People aren’t coming to our website so we are going to make it harder for people to come to our website.” - The dumbest motherfucker alive (and he’s competing with Trump and Altman)
“by forcing people to come to our site by logging in, but making it hard for people to maintain thier prescence here.”
Fixing all of your problems by replacing them with new and much worse ones
Whenever I have a problem, I throw a molotov. Boom, different problem
i have moved to reddit-free experience
Haha!
Will this impact Redlib instances?
Lemmy is the best
No ads every few scrolls!
Long life lemmy!
Reddit will become irrelevant. Long live Lemmy.
Just like Digg.
Time for an exodus.
This is my first comment on here as I just joined Lemmy. I want to see random posts about everything. It only seems like I get fed what they think I want and I don’t know what are bots anymore. It’s getting out of control.
Same brother. Adding my comment under yours to mark the moment!
They permanently ban everyone anyway
Well, fuck everybody using Reddit as a knowledge base during work. I sure as fuck ain’t logging in to my own account on a work computer.

besides tech, they have useful other niches people may seeking answers for. its not really on any other platform.

You forgot: The Greatest Jailbait Moderator of all times!
I just blocked the domain from my dns and search results on ddg.
“Currently only about 13 percent of eligible mobile web users are seeing the app conversion prompt, so this has room to scale,” Huffman said.
I’m one of the lucky 13 percenters and why I am here and no longer there.
And I’m moving to an always logged out experience.
Not affecting my usage at all.
I’ll continue not to use it.
It has affected mine. Sometimes a Google result suggested the only answer was in a reddit thread, and I would click to at least see. Now I get a 'log in" prompt and decide I didn’t need that information after all.
reddits trying to re-force a logged in one again. ironically they wanted people to read-only. but that just made people produce less content for google and open ai to scrape.
They’ve been doing something like this for a while, forcing you to use the app on mobile at least. How does this effect reddit (privacy) frontends?
