Please meet Bonnie Tyler.

Before you ask, she was named after the singer. But what you weren’t gonna ask was why.

It was night time and the song Total Eclipse of the Heart was playing on the radio. When it got to the part that said “turn around” there was a flash of white to the right side of the car, and I knew it was a little dog.

Again, the song said “turn around”. So this time I did.

I could see in the distance as I pulled over to the side of the road. It was a little dog, and when I called to her, instead of running away as all the other ones did, she came to me as if I was hers, or she was mine.

It didn’t matter at the moment because I know the run, and she was doing it towards me.

She followed me to the car, so I sort of played my wife when I asked her if she wanted to keep her, because the dog was right behind me, and was peeking around my legs, as if to ask, is it okay?

My wife said yes, and as if the dog understood, she hopped into my wife’s lap, and my wife cradled her the whole way home.

On March 19th 2026, we named her Bonnie Tyler in honor of the song that so asked us to “turn around”.

And while she recognizes Bonnie and Bon Bon, her favourite nickname by far is BonTai. (pronounced bon tie)
