‘A father is always gonna be sexually attracted to his daughter…’ A controversial remark made by Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler about his daughter, actress Liv Tyler, is once again making rounds on social media. The statement, published in Gavin Edwards’ 2006 book Is Tiny Dancer Really Elton’s Little John?, has resurfaced as the 78-year-old singer faces an unresolved California civil lawsuit alleging he sexually abused a teenager in the 1970s.

Tyler denies wrongdoing in the case brought by Julia Misley, who says she was 16 when their relationship began in 1973. A judge narrowed her lawsuit in April 2026 but allowed allegations involving California to proceed.

Despite the pending lawsuit, Tyler has returned to performing, joining Aerosmith at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on 29 October 2026. The concert marked the band’s first full live performance since 2023, following a vocal injury that forced the group to retire from touring. His daughter Liv, 49, and actress Alicia Silverstone introduced the band before the performance.

Tyler’s return to the stage comes as he continues to fight allegations of sexual abuse in court. At the Hollywood Bowl, the singer performed Aerosmith classics including ‘Dream On’, ‘Sweet Emotion’ and ‘Walk This Way’, with Dave Grohl joining the band on drums. The performance was part of a two-night concert event held on 29 October and 1 November 2026, even as Tyler’s civil lawsuit remains unresolved.

I feel like Liv’s mother chose to raise her with a different man than her bio father, as her father for a reason.

As a Father, that sentence evoked a sense of disgust in me of which I was unaware I was capable of. What the actual fuck.

    Jesus Christ, for real?

I have always despised this man, but I didn’t think he was this vile, disgusting worm

I’m happy to spread this news far and wide! We’ve known about this quote since 2006. It’s been 20 years and only now is the outrage picking up.

At the risk of getting banned myself, I don’t agree with that interpretation of their comment (and even if I did, “creepy” isn’t how I’d describe bigotry)

They were trying to draw a connection between Tyler thinking he’s hot and the obviously-closeted conservatives who say the gayest things imaginable while supporting anti-LGBT legislation.

I don’t like that comparison because Tyler is just an arrogant rockstar who thinks he’s the best. And I don’t like the comment because there’s no real reason to bring that up.

But I really don’t believe they were trying to equate pedophiles and homosexuals.

There is 0 indication that Steven Tyler is gay. Positing that closeted homosexuals become obsessed with women to hide their obsession with other men and children is directly conflating homosexuals and pedophiles.

they stay in the closet and eventually their sexual wiring starts sparking, and they end up being sexually attracted to their daughter.

            This is homophobic.

I understand that interpretation but I still think they were referring specifically to the idea that he finds his daughter attractive because she looks like him, a man. That’s the “gay” thing he said.

I agree that the quoted sentence is pretty homophobic but I still wouldn’t call any of this creepy

Oh that brings back a shitty memory.

My father one day, told me apropos of fucking nothing, he was worried when we (me and twin) got to a certain age, he might find us attractive since after all we looked just like our mother. However, luckily he said, that never happened probably because he remembers changing diapers and feeding us and stuff.

It fucking squicked me out hard.

I’m going to shove that back into the vault.

Universal healthcare needs to include universal therapy, so that adults (esp. men) will stop traumatizing everyone around them just cus they don’t have someone to say their inside thoughts out loud to

for anyone who wants the full context, as I did:

Does Steven Tyler ever find himself inappropriately attracted to his daughter Liv?

That’s one of those questions you ask last in an interview, in case the guy gets offended and hangs up the phone. But when I asked Tyler, the Aerosmith singer replied, “Oh, absolutely,” adding his trademark cackle. “How can a father not be attracted to his daughter, especially when she’s a cross between the girl he married and himself? Unless he’s an ugly man, a father is always gonna be sexually attracted to his daughter on a certain level.” So you’re saying incest is based in vanity? “Positively, there’s a certain level of narcissism in incest. All a man has to do is be totally honest with himself and he can see it. However, the real man knows that’s just a place to never go. Instead he celebrates it by telling his daughter how beautiful she is and what a precious child of God she is. There’s ways to love it without making love to it–I wrote ‘Janie’s Got a Gun’ about fathers who don’t know the difference.”

(Excerpted from the 2006 book Is Tiny Dancer Really Elton’s Little John?: Music’s Most Enduring Mysteries, Myths, and Rumors Revealed, published by Three Rivers Press, written by Gavin Edwards.)

    https://rulefortytwo.com/secret-rock-knowledge/chapter-7/steven-tyler-inappropriately-attracted-to-liv/

the context doesn’t save it. I think I see what he was going for, but even as somebody without kids, I just don’t see how you wouldn’t entirely separate your child’s appearance from your sexual attraction to her mother.

oh and ofc now I see the context OP added that was buried way down in the comments, after I spent time looking for it amongst a lot of dead ends

I dunno if people are aware but his daughter is the hot chick in several of his videos along with Alicia Silverstone.

These comments don’t make it less weird.

That is just recognising the difference between someone being attractive and you yourself being attracted to them sexually. He is entirely wrong and disgusting in his telling of it. We can all tell who is good looking without wanting to sleep with them.

Sorry! I tried to add it when I saw the original article didn’t actually have the interview text, but obviously it got buried. Thank you for digging it up!

either you haven’t read what he said or you don’t love your daughters and never told them they’re beautiful which I think is sad

you shouldn’t have had children if you can not love them

I read what he said. I’ve told my daughters many times that they’re beautiful. I love my children deeply. I’m not attracted to them. What he said was weird.
