For those of you who don’t know, we stopped doing public executions because they were notoriously seen as spectacles and parties. People dressed up for them. They gambled. They even soaked handkerchiefs in the blood of the individual being executed, for keepsakes.
I wish that was the end of the brutality, but public executions inspire people within a community to find others to execute. To throw another party. It’s like a shark, with blood in the water. If this happens, there will be numerous more to follow. Make no mistake. This will devolve into witch hunts.
This country, that I grew up loving, has gone so far off the fucking rails!
The last public execution (1936) devolved into a carnival atmosphere with around 20,000 spectators, which was seen as an embarrassment to the entire country. And now, our clown of a leader is bringing them back.

It’s been a slow March in that direction for sure. This is sort of the straw that broke the camel’s back for me.
I harbor a tiny sliver of hope that public execution will turn people against capital punishment. I doubt it will, but if we’re going to have the state murder someone in our names, it might be better to not sanitize it by keeping it behind closed doors.
The US is only one step away from witch hunts for outspoken women, trans, gay, etc.

They want to encourage hate and othering and desensitization to violence. This is going to end horribly. This country is making itself a pariah, and we are going to suffer for years if not decades. And those responsible will be too stupid or dead to even grasp their own culpability.

americans need to stop saying “we’re making ourselves…” or “we’re turning into…” or “this is going to happen…” you already have made yourselves, you already have turned into, it already happened. The sooner americans FINALLY acknowledge the fact that “hey, we’re nazis” the better. But I’m absolutely tired of you guys refusing to admit you lost the plot and i’m VERY tired of americans constantly trying to apologize for their country. that ship has sailed a long time ago. you “elected” this clown twice and even that is questionable and you didn’t do anything about it. And before people come in here and say “what do you expect us to do?” stop saying sorry if you can’t do anything to rectify the situation.

Not only that but it’s meant to be an act of state terrorism against dissidents.
This isn’t being done to stop murder, the Trump admin is addicted to murder. This is being done to send a warning to anyone who opposes them that eventually they’ll be next if we don’t stop them now.
I was thinking they wanted to create more division quickly. There will be protests because of this. Especially on the tail of that botched execution in the news, it’s already a hot button issue. Maybe this is part of their martial law plan. With these people, its always a two steps ahead plan, but a really loose poorly thought out one. It always comes back to election interference, lining their own pockets or hiding a headline.
