This summer, #Kdenlive is all about the ASS. Yup you heard it right, .ass subtitle support is coming along with some nifty other features like multiple subtitle tracks. Stay tuned for more.

    @kdenlive Ah yes, good ol’ Advance SubStation Alpha subtitles. Been a while since I’ve seen them around, they were really common for fansubs

      @csolisr @kdenlive @kde they’re still by far the most common subtitle format

      Man those were different times. I remember my brother using Aegisub and the stuff they could do with it, mind blowing.

        @einlander Fun fact: the developer of #Aegisub, Rodrigo Braz Monteiro, ended up building the engine for #Wargroove 1 and 2.

    @kdenlive @kde oh god why would you do that to yourself. ASS is a format that needs to die, not become even more popular.

    It’s also silly to support the unspecified proprietary ASS format before supporting the actual industry standard for subtitles TTML/ISMC.

      @justjanne @kdenlive @kde
      .ass is still one of the most human readable subtitle (alongside with .srt).

      On other hand, .ttml is just a nightmare for casual fansubber.
      At least, that is what happen in fansub culture in my country.

        @techpengu @kdenlive @kde If you want human readable, use VTT. If you use ASS, that’s usually to add pixel-perfect 3D animations.

        Also, to author VTT, SRT and TTML easily you can use e.g. the free edition of Davinci Resolve.

    @kdenlive @kde This news makes me very happy! I’ve specifically been wanting better subtitling since I started using Kdenlive because creating decadent subtitles is fun for me. Thank you for implementing it!
