A reasonable conversation is highly unlikely to happen, because the unreasonable thing of someone breaking into your house at night.

Not at two in the morning they certainly don’t. Thieves don’t break into houses at night. They break into houses during the day when they’re empty. If someone’s breaking into your home at night, they expect you to be there, and they want you to be there. You’re damn right I’m blowing the head off anyone who breaks into my home at night.
