      I mean probably with something like this. They won’t be able to keep projecting their presence in the ME or Africa but latam is right there in the same hemisphere.

        It’s worth noting that the US isn’t actually going to see any oil from Venezuela for a long time. CNN talked about this earlier https://www.cnn.com/2026/01/05/business/video/trump-venezuela-oil-plan-problem-vrtc

        American oil companies would have to invest tends of billions into building out infrastructure, and it’ll take years to do. It’s also not clear they’d want to take the risk. If Venezuela manages to regain sovereignty then they’d take control over their resources again.

          Does it matter? It gives the US an opportunity to use this agreement in the future if anything goes against their ‘legal’ agreement. 20 years from now is a generation away, and gives so much runway to the US that if Venezuela does ‘regain sovereignty’ and tries to ‘take control’ of what the US thinks are now their resources.
