I’m 21f, my housemates are John, 30m, Joe 38m and Jack, 24m. We’ve been having an argument lately over cleaning the kitchen, or in my case, lack of.

The kitchen is constantly bordering on biohazard. I think Joe has actually cleaned it once since he moved in. He once left a deep stock pot he used to cook ham in the kitchen for 7 months before I finally got annoyed and through it out.

The counters have a layer of grease because just about no one knows how to wipe it down when they’re done, the floors haven’t been cleaned in god knows how long, last summer we had a fruit fly infestation that took me months to get rid of.

I used to clean the kitchen once a week but I don’t actually cook in there very often, the only thing I use is the air fryer that I bought and maintain and a singular pot. I always clean up when I’m done. I don’t have anything in the fridge as it’s not been cleaned in well over a year and Jack brings home reduced to clear meat and never eats it.

I quit mopping the floors, wiping down the counters, and cleaning anything that isn’t the sink about 3 months ago and it’s gotten back to the point the lads are complaining about it. They asked why it hasn’t been cleaned and I said it’s not my responsibility, no one else will do it so why should I?

This resulted in an arguement, with Jack, Joe and John all saying I shouldn’t have let them learn to expect I’d do it, and me saying I shouldn’t have to do it because I don’t make the mess. None of them are talking to me right now. I’ve asked a few friends and the opinions are mixed. AITA
