I think now I understand why apps exist that track subscriptions and give you suggestions on which to cancel.
It seems “normal people” subscribe to damn near everything that they get more than an hour of use out of. Subscribing to a productivity, social media, or shopping app?? Those things already harvest the fuck out of your data and sell it to the lowest bidder. The only things I have ever considered subscribing to are health/fitness apps or streaming apps (because you have to).
How are people affording having 20 subscriptions to stuff they probably barely use?
Replacing gmail with a $1/mo account is where they draw the line for paid subscriptions
And gods forbid, they spend $10/yr on a good password manager instead of reusing “password1!”

Its free. Still someone is dedicating their time to develop their app and open source it for the public good. A one-time donation is the least someone can do for a useful app.
They would rather the app harvest their data or show ads since they have nothing to hide or their data is not valuable (to them)

Who said they can? This will be an unpopular opinion because no one likes to admit they are at fault, but the cost of living crisis we are experiencing in Western countries is actually just a cost of spending crisis for some people. Some of those who claim to be “struggling” shouldn’t be, but they have never been taught how to effectively manage their finances and until now they’ve been able to get away with it.
Most should offer alternative support options, even if they can’t promote them directly in their apps (a monopolistic practice on the part of app stores), given that forking over 30% of a subscription’s cost to Apple or Google isn’t something I’d want to do just to support an app’s development.
Yeah, you can get a license outside the play store version of Netguard if you download from website or fdroid by directly donating to the dev.
