I was super bummed when it reached EOL. I wish they would let folks host their own servers for it.

I loved this game, I used to play it on my PS3. It was really the only game I felt comfortable using the flying mechanics in and it didn’t seem super overpowered weapon wise to the point you just got stomped by people who were amazing at the game

Wait 1943 was real? I just remember that being the name we thought BF2 was going to be before they even announced there was going to be a sequel.

So that means my collection is missing 1 game…

1943 was pretty good. Brings back good memories of all the Xbox live arcade stuff on the 360.

I’ve never played any of the Battlefield games at all, tbh. I don’t even know what they’re about, really. Somebody convince me to try them!

But you know what game I do miss regularly? 1943. I just played the absolute hell out of 1943 as a kid, probably one of my most played NES games.

I’ve played every Battlefield since 1942. The series does a great job creating large-scale warfare while keeping it action-packed, avoiding the longer lulls found in other milsim games. There’s a degree of intensity to the combat that I don’t really feel in most other FPS titles.

They’re regularly on sale on Steam for $1.99.

Battlefield 4 is coming up on 12 years old and still has a fair amount of active servers. Might just be me getting old but I find the gameplay really holds up. Compared to Battlefield 3, the whole battle pass / premium currency aspect was really souring at the time, but it’s not all that bad now.

For me, each release since then has been increasingly disappointing, though I still played them and had my fun. I was hyped for WWI combat in BF1, but they had to go and put fully automatic weapons with reflex sights in every soldier’s hands. Thought maybe we’d wind up with bolt action only hardcore servers, but that didn’t really pan out. Battlefield V brought things back to WW2 again, but it felt ruined yet again with an overabundance of attachments and letting everyone spawn with any other faction’s weapons. Completely immersion breaking.

The best modern Battlefield game was BattleBit Remastered, which wasn’t even developed by EA/Dice and had very simple Roblox graphics - seems like things aren’t going so good anymore.

If you like Star Wars, the Battlefront games are pretty amusing.

A lot of the Battlefield games have a single player campaign that ranges from generic FPS to actually having some pretty cool mechanics sprinkled in.

BF1 with standard issue rifles was great. One week had standard issue only, and it was a ton of fun, but a lot of people whined because it was “too hard” lol. (Getting shot generally killed you instantly).

BF1 was also one of the only games where shotguns were as powerful as their IRL counterparts. Once again, people complained that they’d get dropped by a shotgun 3x-4x the range of a video game shotgun. People didn’t realize that shotguns have an effective range greater than 2m IRL, lol. Unfortunately, all the standard weapons were nerfed, all the prototypes or three person guns were modified to be one person, and buffed. And unfortunately, that was the last game patch, so things were left horribly imbalanced in an otherwise amazing game. Still, WW1-era fighting and ship tactics still work.

Don’t bother, they’ve been garbage since 2008. Putting the same name on cash grab trash and riding the coattails of genuinely great originals. Stanard EA

I played a lot of 1942 on the NES as a kid but never 1943.

As for Battlefield I wouldn’t bother anymore. The franchise peaked with BF3 and everything else since is just awful.

That’s just like you’re opinion man. I’ve had heaps of fun with BF 3, 4, 5, & 2042. They’ve all still got online communities. 3/4/5 all have a good campaign and decent graphics for games that are usually on sale for a few bucks. 2042 is still getting event pass updates with skins, weapons and recently a new map.

Hell Let Loose is definitely worth the try if you’re looking for a squad based WW2 shooter. Doesn’t have the destructible environments of battlefield but it’s super fun and requires a lot more tactical forethought than a lot of shooters I’ve played.

It definitely has a bigger learning curve than BF. The game really forces you to collaborate with your squad, move as a soldier would, and consider your routes through the map. Game has a great community though and I’ve found people are usually more than willing to show newbies the ropes.

Do miss the high points of the Battlefield series I played though.

Battlefield 2 and 2142 were absolute gems and have not been matched by any other game in the series

Oh damn, I’ve never played 2142. At first I thought this was a typo of “2042” 😂

Mechs?! I’m sold… and sad I missed this one.

It was and still is my favorite bf. They do still have private servers, but they’re aren’t very full and it generalities takes an event.

The titan wars were something to behold though… haven’t ever played anything like it since it came out.

Battlefield 2 was so good because DICE hired the guys who made the Desert Combat mod for 1942, which was in itself a fantastic mod.
