The teriffs are also changing daily, so this number will fluctuate wildly. Which also means apple will likely price for the worst case scenario, so consumers are paying no matter what.
Good! Maybe people will learn to push back against plutocratic overlords and live simply.
My prediction is that people will push back, but not enough to make a real difference and most people will just roll over and take it right in the balloon knot
This applies to most any electronics. I agree we should use things for longer instead of disposably, but people do need electronics nowadays.
I have a use it till it breaks philosophy, but if the thing breaks and I cannot figure out how to fix it myself (or do not think I can do it safely) and have no repair shop to go to, I do have to buy something new. And I am not ready to live so simply I have no smartphone, computer, or WiFi yet.
There is absolutely no way the parts actually cost that much for apple.
Believe it or not, hardware is rarely a profit leader. You almost always make your money back on subscriptions and ad revenue. Hardware is crazy expensive to make, as much as we love to look at $20 prepaid Android phones and write flagships off as being overpriced, they are taking a massive cut on hardware hoping to make it back on your service. Those prepaids are usually $150+ in actual hardware cost.
If this costs them 549 per the image, and they are selling it for 1099, they are definitely making a profit.
Based on the image this is for parts only. This doesn’t look like it takes into account everything else involved such as shipping, packaging, marketing, research and development and much much more.
You can still argue iPhones are overpriced but you also have to factor in more than just price per part.
