After being unimpressed last episode, I found this one really engaging… up until they decided to throw in the creepy gay villain trope. I seriously can’t stand that kind of character, and it was sort of surprising after Yaomay appeared to be coded as trans in a fairly positive way (though that might turn out to be incorrect). I really like the ways that the various characters are interacting with the themes of identity and memory, but if there’s gonna be some undercurrent of homophobia I’m not sure I’ll be willing to stick around to see how the mysteries unravel. Might give it one more episode, though.

Tiny spoilers about Hebinuma (nothing specific)

I agree Doc’s intro sucks quite a bit which surprised me as I completely forgot all about it before watching this episode. He has a few more less than stellar scenes in the future so be ready for that if you decide to stick with it (not a huge amount if I recall correctly). That said he does become a proper character with his own things happening in the background eventually - to the point I actually found him to be pretty interesting in terms of the overall plot.

I don’t know how they’ll handle him in the anime considering its pace but he does improve in manga. They seem to stick closely to the most important parts of the story so at least some of his “good” moments should make it in.

Welp, more skipped content, more changes and still going at the pace of one volume per episode - can’t say I’m a fan of that. It’s not terrible so far but it’s still a disappointing way to go about it. At least what did make it in is good so there’s that.

I’m curious what the plan for the whole season is - there’s not enough material if they intend to go this fast. I’m a bit worried.

As an anime only, I could tell this episode that we were blazing through the story really fast and skipping big chunks. However, it hasn’t been so bad that I couldn’t follow. As for the whole season, I remember reading that they are planning on an anime-only ending, but one that was written by the original author. So, look forward to that I guess.
