BREAKING: Two More Major Hospitals Reach DoJ Settlements to Keep Youth Gender Clinics Shuttered

The Justice Department announced that NYU Langone and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center had joined four other major hospitals in reaching such settlements, to the dismay of trans activists.
Two additional major hospitals today reached settlements with the Department of Justice to keep their pediatric gender clinics shuttered. This development amounts to more victories for the Trump administration as it wages a whole-of-government campaign to destroy what remains of the beleaguered field of pediatric gender medicine.
Facing accusations of potential violations of federal law, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center—the largest medical provider in Pennsylvania—and NYU Langone have each agreed to cease providing gender-transition interventions to minors, according to a Justice Department news release. NYU Langone will pay an $8.5 million penalty and UPMC will pay $950,000.
“The Department of Justice is fighting to protect our nation’s children and working tirelessly to reach agreements with hospitals to end so-called ‘gender affirming care’ for minors,” Attorney General Todd Blanche said in the release. “Today’s resolutions send a clear message: hospitals that target children in these practices and then fraudulently obtain payment for the procedures will be held to account.”
“In working towards these resolutions,” the news release stated, “the United States acknowledged that both NYU and UPMC took significant steps entitling them to credit for cooperation with the Department in its investigation, including ongoing cooperation in the Department’s investigation of other entities potentially violating federal law in connection with the provision of sex-rejecting procedures to minors. At all times during the investigation, NYU and UPMC remained cooperative and solutions-driven.”
New York’s Mt. Sinai earlier this month reached a similar settlement to keep its pediatric gender clinic closed, joining a roster of hospitals to have capitulated in the face of the Trump administration’s threats to this field that includes Texas Children’s Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. Mt. Sinai agreed to pay a monetary penalty and to put $2 million toward patients who have been harmed by gender-transition interventions they received as minors.
There was no mention in the news release on Friday of UPMC or NYU Langone being compelled to provide treatment for so-called detransitioners.
The Justice Department made clear in the release that it is continuing to target other major hospitals, suggesting that more such settlements may be on the horizon.

It’s an absolutely consistent phenomenon with these hospitals reaching settlements with the DoJ to keep their youth gender clinics closed that everyone on Bluesky blames the hospitals and no one suggests that the Trump administration backed them into a corner so badly that they capitulated out of terror. It is very likely that the capitulation was motivated by a desire to keep doctors from being indicted for fraud. Not one person on Bluesky has made an effort to take this into consideration.
Billing fraud seems to be the real reason, and they’re pretty screwed on that

A psychiatrist called switching to “unspecified endocrine disorder” a way to “work around” the system. A Utah OB-GYN said she billed that way for 14 years. The Trump administration calls such coding fraud.
“When healthcare providers use fraudulent medical coding to obtain payment from the federal government,” the HHS report asserts, “they may be liable under the federal False Claims Act, which carries fines and imposes damages of ‘3 times the amount of damages which the government sustains.’”
