so i’ve seen a lot of people talk about surgeries, mostly genital or boob area. i’d like to comment:

i think it’s not a good idea. at least it’s not as good an idea as people generally think. it does not just change your looks. it also changes the tissue, and that matters.

as an example, some women do plastic surgery to get larger boobs, but i’m quite sure that this erases a large part of the nervous tissue in the boobs, so the plastic essentially doesn’t feel anything, so i doubt that it would feel good to get them touched and stimulated by someone you like.

the same is true with the penis, which is not just a form factor, but also contains a lot of nervous tissue, and i’m quite sure that it would be significantly more difficult to get an orgasm without that nervous tissue. this is just something to beware. i’m not an expert on plastic surgeries, but this much seems rather straightforward to argue to me.

Even if what you said was true, and it’s not, you are not taking into account the mental benefits to someone experiencing body dysmorphia.

    Edit: more direct wording.

    Admin hat on here.

You need to be very careful about how you phrase topics like this. It’s ok to express your opinion. It’s ok to say that surgery is not for you and to be open about why.

What’s not ok is telling people that surgery, or any other aspect of folk living life authentically on their own terms isn’t isn’t for them either.

You can talk about your own experiences and perspectives, but don’t push them on to others

Getting bottom surgery was the single best decision I have made in my entire life. It saved my life. I wouldn’t be here without having gotten it.

I think it’s safe to say that the doctors who perform such procedures inform their patients about all the possible consequences of the surgery. I also think the patients do quite a bit of research on their own.

If you really want to convince others of this, then I think you would need to (possibly) get a medical degree, gather lots of data and then write a medical research paper. However, I don’t think that’s what you want.

Why do you feel a need to dissuade others from having such surgeries? Why not live and let live? To each his/her/hir/xem/[your favourite pronoun] own?

What if we didn’t use pronouns at all and declined them like regular proper nouns.

“Xi saw Xir friend Sav at the store and she recognized Xim.”

“X saw X’s friend Sav at the store and she recognized X.”

Then you sound like you’re talking about like an agent whose name and pronouns has been redacted.

not sure what you’re on about? one of the main parts of a vaginoplasty/vulvoplasty is rearranging the nerves (and other tissue) of the glans penis into a clitoris. even in the case of a nulloplasty, the nerves generally get moved to a little lump under the skin which ends up functioning similarly to a clitoris.

as for boobs, the only references i’ve seen lately to that were wrt boob reduction as an alternative to SERMs for non-binary feminization without breasts. notably, this consists mainly of just discarding a bunch of fat tissue. and from the multiple women i’ve spoken to irl about their experience with breast implants, if they did experience any reduction in sensitivity, certainly none of them found it noteworthy enough to mention.

Nobody goes under the knife lightly imo, or very few people do. I have no doubt those considering surgery are much better informed than you or I.

that’s just not true about SRS, the nervous tissue is literally reshaped to keep feeling.

I’ll be honest, this post pissed me off, so I apologize if I’m direct and abrupt.

I had some really rare complications with my bottom surgery including losing most of my clitoral tissue to serious necrosis and lots of separation in the labia. I still have no regrets.

I don’t care that another person may never be able to give me an orgasm. Heck even if I hadn’t been able to give myself one for the rest of my life I would not regret it. It still has resolved a major mental health issue. I had intense “phantom genital” issues my whole life. It cause a ton of anxiety, erectile dysfunction, and other sexual issues and was just torture, really.

Not to mention tucking was extremely uncomfortable for me due to some testicular nerve issues, so now I don’t need to worry about that anymore.

So, don’t assume that everyone should not have surgery because their pleasure might be slightly decreased or they may lose some sensation.

Everyone should be free to do what they want. Personally, I’ve just accepted it’s not for me and hope reincarnation is a thing.

It doesn’t cause me serious dysphoria after getting an orchi. I just wish I had more options for underwear and swimsuits.

You’re statement on nerve endings sounds like bullshit.

I’ve talked to almost every active surgeon in my our country and they all gave me a rate of 75-100% for orgasms to be possible afterwards.

And even if not, I still want to be able to look myself in the mirror, even without underwear. Or hug people without worrying. Or be naked in front of my partner.

Edit: gandalf, we live in the same country. If you want I can give you a lot more info about specific surgeons.
