Dear patient lemmings, I am in need of your help. I’m searching for games that have some GOD DAAMN OSTs and come with a great story or/and gameplay.
Games that tick these requirements for me:
- Danganronpa 1/2/V3 + Ultra Despair Girls (most recently finished)
- Persona 4/5 (waiting for Persona 3 remaster)
- NFS Most Wanted (2005, 2012), Carbon, ProStreet
- Doom 2016, Eternal
- Test Drive Unlimited 2
- Life is Strange
- Ace Combat 7
- Omori
- ULTRAKILL
-
Nier: Automata
-
Disco Elysium
-
Outer Wilds
These came right into my head when I read great OSTs

How has nobody said Hotline Miami yet?
Hotline Miami
Hotline Miami
Hotline MiamiOh thank you for the reminder! I had put that game down somewhere in the start, because it was a bit harsh to beat the levels with an ergonomic mouse.
Oh hm its definitely tough by design. Don’t feel bad about reloading a lot.
Also i think controller support is good.
Neir Automata has an absolutely banging soundtrack. You need to “finish” the game I think 3 times to see the final ending. Push through the run as 9s it is worth it. The ending has all the feels and the ending song is with it is phenomenal.
To The Moon has a beautiful soundtrack and a story which made me cry. It’s not a long game, I highly recommend it.
Syonara Wild Hearts is a video game music album. It’s really simple mechanically but the songs are great and it’s a proper Zen game.
Journey has a wonderful sound track, just get to like level 3 where your doing the big slide downhill and tell me that’s not magical.
Similar to Journey (but not quite as good) is Gris.
Bastion has some excellent songs and is a short experience.
Terraria has a brilliant soundtrack and great gameplay, very little story though. Great in multiplayer so find a friend.
Death Stranding has some great songs, a bit to spread out though. The story is Kojimas usual eclectic madness but I enjoyed it.
Bastion has some excellent songs and is a short experience.
Every song in Bastion is exceptionally good. I’ve had this soundtrack on my phone since the game came out.
How in the fuck is Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance not mentioned yet?
A+++ OST, A+ gameplay, and a surprisingly good story for a Platinum game.
Hades, Hades, and Hades. I listen to that OST all the time it’s just so good. Also DOOM 2016
You’re the 2nd one who suggested Hades. Did you find it hard as a rougelike?
As far as roguelites go, no. There’s even an option you can toggle on to make it easier every run if you’re not there to git gud.
Oh that’s reassuring. Thank you!
- Katana ZERO
- Metal Gear Rising
- That one Maze sequence in Control
- Stellaris
- Deus Ex: HR and MD
- Wolfenstein: The New Order (Mick Gordon, same as Doom)
I’ve already played with Wolfenstein, but you got me there with Katana ZERO. Thank you for the list!
Ruiner
Yes.
I am looking forward to Final Form, Reikon clearly knows what they are doing.
- Hades
- Celeste
- FURI
How did you feel about Celeste? It felt pretty hard for me on the first level already. Might pick back up then!
Celeste is hard, but so rewarding! And the OST is stunning
As a 196 regular, it would be a sin not to finish it.
I see some Final Fantasy mentions, but I’m throwing Final Fantasy Tactics in particular into the ring.
- Great gameplay (min-max to your heart’s content) that will let the player fail. Also will let the player soft lock themselves and require loading an earlier save if they didn’t have “optimal” builds for some encounters…
- It has a story! That moves forward all of the time! Just let it happen and don’t think too much about it. You’re a mere mortal fighting up against gods at some point. Maybe?
- Great soundtrack! My personal favorites are below.
- Apoplexy
- Battle on the Bridge
- Antipyretic
- Trisection
Xenoblade 1
Xenoblade X
Xenoblade 2
Xenoblade 3
Incredibile Crisis, on PS1.
Admittedly the story is a bit thin… the game play is purposefully enraging… but it gets a big ol’double check mark on the OST requirement thanks to the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra.
On a totally different note and tone, Last of Us. I dig anything Gustavo Santaolalla.
Actually the story seems pretty charming tho. The graphics feels a bit too dated to me, but atleast the OST is up on YT, and damn the main menu OST is already a banger.
Final Fantasy XIV has a diverse soundtrack and a terrific story, but it is a huge time commitment. The story starts off pretty slow and takes a long time to build up.
A few boss fight themes as examples:
Yeah I’ve tried FFXIV but it seems MMORPGs aren’t made for me. Thank you for the fight themes tho! “Beauty’s Wicked Wiles” kinda makes me hyped and chilled at the same time.
You will love MAX PAYNE 3. Badass shootouts inspired by John Woo action films, eargasmic soundtrack composed by legendary noise band HEALTH and some of the best acting seen in story-driven video games.
It very much depends on your taste in music, but Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice OST is absolutely amazing, especially considering it’s all original scores (I think). After beating the game I put the OST on repeat for several days
I’ve heard some great reviews about it’s story. Did you like it?
A lot: amazing environments and scenery, cool combat with great enemy boss designs, very immersive exploration and the actress did an awesome job throughout it. The “puzzles” bits were a little pain to beat, but everything else was top notch; story was also very cool and made me feel the burden Senua’s carrying.
Definitely recommended!
I really enjoy the OST for the Hotline Miami games. If it’s your thing it goes pretty hard.
