Anti‑immigration protests have taken place in dozens of towns and cities across Poland.

Most demonstrations attracted several hundred people or fewer on Saturday - but police estimated that about 3,000 took part in the largest rally in the southern city of Katowice.

The protests were organised by far-right political group Konfederacja, and another nationalist organisation.

Politicians from Konfederacja and the opposition Law and Justice party have been warning about a flood of illegal migration in Poland - but official figures do not support their claims.

    Russia. Russia did this.

If you don’t understand that then you are literally living in your own anus.

They will also protest Polish people migrating to other countries for economic purposes, surely?

    staged

A strong claim, but justified if - according to the article - all these protest were organised by only 2 parties, both nationalist.

Fuck the whole “we have an immigration problem” narrative, globally. Fear of otherness has always been a strong political manipulation device.

In March, Poland temporarily suspended the right of migrants arriving in the country via its border with Belarus to apply for asylum.

Now this is a completely separate problem. One that has Russia and Hybrid Warfare written all over it. Do not mix them up with general xenophobia (though no doubt that’s exactly what these nationalist fascistic parties are doing).

Even if ‘Hybrid Warrfare written all over’, the people being used there, are still people and should have their rights and dignity preserved. Do not let people die just because ‘Russia sent them’.

Ah yes, blindly let possible insurgents from an openly hostile nation into your country. You’re a fuckin genius

Do you even know what we are talking about? The migrants in question are not Russians. They are asylum seekers, people from Middle East or and Africa, tricked by Russians, Belarusians and smugglers into taking the route through Polish eastern border when looking for a better life in the West. They are denied asylum, brutally pushed back to Belarus (which pushes them back to Poland), often dying in the forest and swamps.

In fact Russians (most probable insurgents), as white people, would get much easier pass there.

And I am not talking about ‘accepting blindly’ anyone crossing the border. Just following the law (Polish and international ) and some human decency (like providing health care for sick and wounded) would do.

Unfortunately this won’t work. Accepting anyone from this direction will make Russia send more and more and more. There is no country that can physically process that many people. Finnland tried in the begining and ended up closing the border as well.

I’m very sorry for people who took the bait and paid Russian mobsters (I mean government) to be smuggled to EU. sorry but they should have used different smuggling provider.

Yeah but who gets to build the re-education courses?

Things like that are dangerous, even though they sound kind of good as a knee jerk reaction.

Yes, recently a lot of people came here. With various skin colours. From the East, from the South, but even from the West (a lot of Americans would rather live here). I love seeing them in my city, hearing all those different languages. Also: Ukrainian shops, Georgian bakeries, various Asian restaurants – these make the city a better place to live for everybody.

But there are people who chose hatred instead. Of course only those with darker skin are considered threat. Or speaking Russian-like language (which includes Ukrainians and Belarusians).

When no migrants were coming here the nationalists/racists were mostly ridiculous, but now they are great threat to many people who live here, or just come here for a visit.

I was looking to get my citizenship there through my descendants.

I stopped when I saw leadership in Poland seems…compromised. I figured if both places I can live are under Russian influence I might as well stay where I know my neighbors.
