Looked at the clock at 2:55 and thought “ah that thing will go off shortly”

    Still made me jump

I didn’t get it! Wonder if it’s because I’m running GrapheneOS on my Pixel. I do have emergency alerts enabled, but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I was at the pub when it happened. With so many phones going off at once it didn’t really sound like the noise was coming from a phone at all, more like a fire alarm. Took lots of people quite a long time to realise what was going on

I’m firmly out of the “nothing ever happens” crowd by this point, so I’ll keep em on

Then why turn it off if you’ll never really get them? I know emergencies rarely happen, but wouldn’t you want it enabled if they do?

They have been used 5 times already, and all were for very good reason

It has been used to evacuate Plymouth for disposal of a WW2 bomb and for storm warnings with imminent threat to life in Wales, the SW, NI and Scotland.
