I grabbed a copy of the 3rd ed Basic Set, but its a little intimidating haha.

Any recommendations for me to bring to a oneshot night to show why Gurps is neat?

I recommend using the 4th Ed lite version (free), and using the Caravan To Ein Arris (also free).

Welcome to GURPS, there’s a lot lol

That’s hard to pinpoint for me, honestly. The thing that makes GURPS neat is how it can be used for any setting you can imagine, so it’s difficult to try and encapsulate that in a single session IMO. I’d try to find out what the group prefers as far as setting goes and then choose based on that. If you’re running it for strangers then just pick what setting you prefer.

This is a handy resource for a full listing of GURPS one-shot adventures. On that page you can see which setting each one shot is in for a general flavor of what you’d be running. Searching that site for articles tagged with GURPS will also get you some more results listed chronologically.

If you’re REALLY intimidated or at least worried your players might be, you can always start with GURPS Lite too. Although, that’s for 4th edition.

Thanks! There’s sometimes too many generic systems and its hard to focus on why use one over another (still wanna try Cortex, Genesis, Fate, etc). It been a busy weekend and haven’t had a chance to really sit and read through gurps rules yet.

      Is there a big difference between 4th and 3rd? I’m guessing it’s mostly revisions/tweaks?

You should have a look at https://1shotadventures.com/ ! They have a variety of free one-shot stand-alone adventures for all kinds of genres, with pregenerated characters for each. It’s all 4th edition, but the conversion between versions shouldn’t be bad (and like GoldSeal said, 4Ed Lite is free!)

I’m afraid I haven’t actually run any- I mine them for ideas, but I’ve got a long term game I host, so I haven’t had the chance yet!

The Star Trek one was how I found the site; Bombshell of Tomorrow is one of the few superhero one-shots I’ve found that has potential…
