    It seems odd that they keep working. I would assume that the more of them that stop working, the more flights get cancelled, the more pressure on Trump and the Republicans to reopen government.

    Working for free isn’t making it better for them personally or Americans in general short term or long term. Is it a sense of duty? Worry about not working will lead to unsafe flights? Worry about losing their jobs?

      Reagan made it illegal for ATC to strike, so they face legal punishment if they do. Their options are to quit permanently or work for free.

        Omg, I can’t believe o forgot that. He fired them didn’t he and blacklisted them from being rehired.

          Exactly. So now we have people in a job that already has one of the highest rates of suicide, working for no pay, unable to strike under threat of federal charges, with skills that aren’t easily transferrable to another line of work despite being incredibly necessary.
