The tap and hold gesture has become so natural for me that even when I consciously remind myself that I’m in VLC, I still find myself attempting it. The double-tap skip and progress bar scrub are welcome tools though less granular for shorter jumps imho.

VLC could even innovate with something like tap and hold the let side of the screen to 2x rewind and on the right side to 2x fast-forward.

Edit: Maybe I’m overestimating how many people watch media on touch screen devices. But if Linux phones are ever going to be a thing we may need to begin standardizing how we interact with all devices across hardware platforms.
