When the start of the Ukraine-Russia war happened there was a reddit post asking why there wasn’t much solidarity with Palestine during their periodic uprisings as there was with Ukraine.

The answers to that post were nuance trolling, and squirming to find justifications, or a lamentation on why it’s not okay for Israel to respond in overwhelming violence but it’s a “conflict with no easy answers”. You know, some bullshit like that emphasizes the preservation of the status quo but a license to feel bad about the Palestine-Israel conflict.

Now Israel and the US - which Biden is apparently sending a carrier - are going to repress Palestine again. The liberals of reddit and the wider lemmyverse, the liberals of the Democratic party, and those you know in real life, are all going to deform their conscience to justify the repression all over again.

It’s okay for Israel to annex the West Bank against their will but not okay for Russia to annex Crimea in accordance with theirs. "

It’s just a narcissistic reflex by Western liberals. Their flavor of white supremacy that they tell themselves is that creep Louis Ck joke “It’s not that white people are better, it’s that being white is clearly better”, but the truth is they believe both.
