Thats not how elections work no. People aren’t making careful strategic calculations, they simply don’t vote for candidates they don’t believe will help them.

Triangulation doesn’t work. 99% Hitler loses to 100% Hitler because people who want Hitler vote Hitler and people who want not Hitler are unrepresented. Same reason Hillary lost.

What? I have no idea what mental math you’re making up. Nobody implied it was strategic.

The logic is simple. Vote for one or the other. Making the choice to not vote either passively because unenthusiastic candidate or with intent to make a point, is tacitly accepting that the potentially worse outcome is acceptable. Anyone thinking otherwise is willfully ignorant or lying to themselves.

Thats not how elections actually work in practice. If it was, triangulating yourself to be 1 inch closer to center than the opposition would win every election. Instead we see people just check out. If Trump started a war, raped children, and stole billions, it wouldn’t meaningfully increase Gavin Newsom’s turnout. Conversely if Trump had been less dogshit, Biden’s numbers would have remained about the same.
