Lenin was not involved in the February Revolution because he was in exile. He returned to Russia sometime in the spring of 1917 to immediately start rabble rousing.
He launched a coup against the interim government to seize control.
Now, the interim government had promised elections to write a new constitution.
Lenin allowed these elections to proceed, but he and his Bolsheviks lost. He then started screaming about how it wasn’t fair that he didn’t win, and demanded that the winners bow to his demands.
They refused, and Lenin had the constitutional assembly shut down after their first day, and then arrested the members.
This kicked off the Russian civil war, and was the impetus for Lenin to ban other political parties.
