In any case, the idea that the Netherlands is an especially accepting country was always a fundamental misunderstanding of traditional Dutch tolerance. Tolerating something is not the same as accepting or celebrating it.

It is a huge problem to sweep these systemic problems under the rug. I now see the roots of far right ideas setting into my colleagues, who consider themselves being on the left. Things like saying “The quickest way to get in trouble now is asking what us a woman?” Or thinking that kids are being converted gay in California.
