why is the social democrat symbol a hand holding roses? are they laying it on the grave of the communists they help kill?

It’s the promise of a new and better world. You grab onto it, and then you find out it just made you bleed for nothing more than wilted garbage.

More seriously, it’s meant to depict promising a new and beautiful world, and the fist is the standard leftist fist of worker power and solidarity. It was specifically designed for the Socialist Party of France, and the idea was to use a symbol that contrasts against the hammer and sickle of the Communist Party. Then it was picked up by social democrats everywhere, especially in Europe.

Typical for social democrats, their primary concern is trying to tell people “we are not communists”

        This made me laugh.

Social Democrats used to cover all of modern day anti-capitalist forces. Lenin himself wrote of him as a social democrat.

But with time they became ossified, began to enjoy the access to the state as union leaders or elected officials, many also tried to rectify the anti-imperialist slogans with the material benefits enjoyed from exploitation.

Around the First World War, the original leaders of the social democratic movement died and were replaced by right-deviationists, ultimately leading to the break with actual socialists and anti-imperialists.

The symbols they just kept while MLs had to find “new ones”.

That hand creeps me out every time I see it because it’s remarkably reminiscent of the fedbook hand.

Social democrats want some social elements in a capitalist mode of production, democratic socialists want socialised ownership of the means of production but are only willing to use bourgeois elections to achieve it.

The DSA is a fucking joke. No indigenous communism can exist in the Demonized State parasits of America.

They would also kill Rosa Luxemburg if given the chance.

They already sacrificed Palestinians for Mamdani.

Instead of abolishing the NYPD which isn’t just a humble local police force, but an global military stronger than many a countries armed forced, he just does useless small gestures and vibes.

The Red Star Caucus could be spending their time organizing more like groups like CodePink do.

The Red Rose symbol comes from the Paris Commune, when it became traditional of workers of using the color red. This is also why we have the red guards, red army, and red in many socialist flags. Objects with the color red (red rose, red star, red flag) became symbols of the workers’ movement. The clenched fist also became a symbol of the workers’ struggle. I think the fist and rose is a good symbol, too bad it became co-opted by people who were trying to lure the workers out of the revolutionary movement.

Is there a possibility or potential or strategy to reclaim a symbol from a group that uses it in bad faith?
