We’re excited to announce that Kindling, the Flask-based frontend for the AO3 recommender engine, is now deployed and running on thinkcentre.

Key features:

  • No accounts required: uses the owner_key cookie for identity.
  • Pairwise fic preference arena: compare two fics and tell us which you prefer to build a personalized ranking.
  • Leaderboard: see where your favorite fics rank after enough comparisons.
  • Your arena choices feed back into your recommendation profile to improve future suggestions.

Technical details:

  • Service: kindling.service (user systemd) is active and listening on 127.0.0.1:8082.
  • Mirror database: /home/alvaro/kindling-data/ao3_metadata.db (1.727 GB) is intact and verified.
  • Web database: /home/alvaro/kindling-data/kindling_web.db contains all arena tables and is updated nightly.
  • Arena endpoint: /api/arena/pair returns real work pairs.
  • Health endpoint: /api/health returns status ok with 112,935 works in the mirror.
  • NGINX proxies public port 8009 to the service (so you can access via http://thinkcentre:8009/ or similar).
  • Nightly batch runs at 03:23 daily to update the web database.

The deployment is stable and has been verified with integrity checks.

We invite you to try the arena and provide feedback!
