this made me wonder, if a compatible trans femme and compatible trans masc want to trade gonads, would that be possible? not for the purposes of reproduction, just for hormone production. like they get my testicles and i get their ovaries and neither of us need HRT anymore.
Nah, tissue rejection alone is a giant barrier. Then you gotta ensure blood supply, have enough connection for the gonads to release the hormones, etc.
I’m fairly confident that it’s possible, it just isn’t a realistic procedure yet.
Just look at what the ovaries need
I’m more in favor of a permanent implant capable of creating hormones for decades on end. Tissue rejection is scary, and so unless they grow it from my own stem cells, I’m not willing to take that risk. A simpler implant just seems like a much lower hurdle

I like it, but I was thinking more along the lines of a pacemaker; something that lasts for decades or more
