Come on these conversations HAVE to be bots right?

How do all of these people seem to know details about the fediverse without seeming to grasp basic parts of it and how it may contrast with reddit?

I mean sure there are tons of bots here, there are tons of people with suspect intentions… but like MORE SO here than corporate social media? MORE SO??? HOW? WHY? Why would people with actually serious amounts of resources waste their time here?

When I opened that link, I was ready to comment to correct misconceptions and trying to bring people over. It was 10 days ago. I mean it’s fine, but idk, it has that “I shouldn’t necro a thread”. But also not a lot of eyes will find my comments too anyways. I’ve yet to read the whole thread, so maybe what I want to say have already been said.

How do all of these people seem to know details about the [thing] without seeming to grasp basic parts of it and

this is not at all uncommon for a lot of things. though I somehow am struggling to think of examples. whoops.

Thankfully most of the people in that thread have reasonable takes on why it is necessary.

I wasn’t familiar with how piefed handles it, I think that is a good method. The user can start setting up their profile, but posts are limited.

About a month ago, I temporarily rejoined the Fediverse after about a month away previously. As I had lost my login details, I had to set up a new account. I was shocked to find that Lemmy no longer just let me sign up but now I had to fill out a form and wait for it to be verified by a human moderator before I could use the platform.

This is insane because most (if not all) of the instances I’ve signed up for in the past few years have required a little application process.

This is not new by any means.
