Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•In terms of wallet, keys, phone, etc, which pocket does each belong to in your jeans?
2·2 months agoI wear jeans with two pockets. The left pocket contains my wallet and keys, the right pocket contains my phone. I also carry a small backpack with miscellaneous things (umbrella, extra battery and phone charger, medicine, etc).
Yeah. I use Arch on my gaming PC. But on my laptop-converted-to-a-NAS I use OpenMediaVault (Which is Debian based)
I used to be a Gnome fan. But I hate the direction they took from Gnome shell 4 onwards. Now I use KDE and I’m happy with it.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What's up with distrowatch and MX Linux?
18·4 months agoDistrowatch ranking is just the distros that are more commonly searched on the site. The FAQ says “The page Hit Ranking represents hits per day by unique visitors”. It’s just an attempt to see what’s more popular among visitors.
Yeah, maybe there is a feedback loop where people will click on the top one just to see why it is on top, and in doing so they give the clicks necessary to remain on the top.

Some decades ago when I was still an engineering student, my team had to present an electronic assignment. The damn circuit didn’t work, no matter what I did. So I decided to go ask the teacher for advice. I walked away a couple of meters, when my teammates told me that the circuit finally started working. As soon as I went back, it failed again. We soon determined that it failed only when I was near it. My teammates presented the assignment while I was at the other side of the lab. We passed the assignment, and sure enough, when I approached again to pick up my things, the damn circuit stopped working again.

Out of Context Comics@lemmy.world•Let's all have some pizza!
2·9 months agoI guess the context is some anti-drug campaign, but still WTF?
So the world is now wasting energy and resources to generate AI content in order to combat AI crawlers, by making them waste more energy and resources. Great! 👍

cats@lemmy.world•What is your cat's name, and what stupid nicknames do you call them?
0·9 months agoHer name is Masha, but I call her “Estás bien fea” (“you are so ugly”). She doesn’t mind.

I recommend that before using an AUR helper, you should familiarize yourself with the process by cloning, reading the files, compiling, and installing manually. Then after you think you are good you can install a helper. I use yay.
Also, sometimes pacman itself gets updated and your AUR helper doesn’t work anymore. When that happens you have to update or recompile your helper manually. If you are not familiar with the process it can be difficult. I’m talking from experience, one day after an update my helper didn’t work and I didn’t remember how to do all the process manually, and I had to re read the wiki again.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•To the lonely people here... How do you survive these holidays?
2·1 year agoAutistic adult here. I love being alone. Since 2020 (pandemic) I have spent both Christmas and the new year alone at my home with my cat. I just cooked something special for myself and acted like it was a normal day. Also I sent messages to all my friends wishing them happy holidays.
I have to admit, though, that this year I felt a little lonely, so I decided to visit my family again, but only for Christmas. I want to spend the new year alone, otherwise it would be too much time surrounded by too many people.
