I use chat5-reasoning in cursor for code generation. I am also an asshat. But it’s not because I use ai.
Sorry to go off topic, but are gay people more likely to be single? It seems that almost every gay person I know personally is in a relationship. Def not so with straight people I know.
Fair. But most of these cars have voice controls that are even safer than using an array of buttons. I’ve never felt unsafe in my wife’s Tesla except when they once moved the defrost control early on. But that was when I started using the voice controls and never look back (haha - unintentional play on words there). My Kia won’t even let you use the touch screen to type in an address while it’s in drive - however it’s voice control for navigation is terrible. But it allows car play and Siri is plenty adequate for voice control with navigation.
They think. It’s a matter of semantics of course, but the processing of ideas is thinking and AI does that.
Why do you keep strawmanning? I never said I’m confident AIs will have consciousness. I’m saying we can’t know, but there’s no reason to think they won’t. How are you so confident they never will have consciousness since we don’t actually know what consciousness is?
What else is a brain but a biological machine? Do you think it has magic or something else that differentiates it from any other machine? Getting stuck on semantics is pointless - the source of a machine is irrelevant to this discussion.
This entire discussion is based on assumptions, as is your opinion that a brain is somehow a special construct that can’t ever be emulated.
The ultimate fact that we don’t know what consciousness actually is, nor can we prove an entity has it or doesn’t (except for our own mind) means that it’s kind of a stupid thing to argue about. You can believe whatever you want. I don’t really care if you’re wrong.
Coming soon to a united states near you.
Touchscreens are infinitely reconfigurable. And the solution is cheaper. Some like the cleaner look when avoiding all the buttons and knobs.
Of course they think. What else would you call the cyclic process of a reasoning model? Just because we know the mechanisms of the fundamental building blocks of these algorithms doesn’t mean they aren’t thinking. And it certainly doesn’t mean that they couldn’t be conscious - especially when we don’t actually know exactly what consciousness is. The brain mechanics are fairly well understood too - the synapses inter communication and networking is vaguely similar to the matrix calculations of current AI tools. The brain is just a machine - a highly complicated one with chemical elements, but a machine nonetheless.
I don’t assume consciousness is the end goal of ai. Although I suspect some scientists are working towards that in a more pragmatic non-metaphysics way. We don’t know what consciousness actually is, or what makes it. We can’t really do proper science on the subject because it can’t actuallyw be observed. So we don’t know if it will arise accidentally as part of building the complexity of neural nets sufficiently. Of course consciousness is a big deal; but it’s very difficult to understand. I think you should look into metaphysics more to try understand the issues.
Use the crowbar.
It more like throwing away your remaining water the year after having a drought.
It’s simple logic. I didn’t accuse you of anything. I just stated my point.
I’m not arguing for the sake of the democrat politicians, but for the sake of the country. It’s not a matter of supporting a team, but choosing which politician of the viable options is better. ‘Team’ support is when you vote against your own interest because of a historical affiliation. Dems are better so voting for them is logical. I understand you feel the democrats aren’t good enough and you think if they don’t get enough votes, they’ll change to be more progressive, but unfortunately that’s not likely to work. Furthermore it gets us trump and other rightwing assholes in power for another four years - and that’s really bad. It’s on you if you don’t vote for the better option.
Its not a matter of 100%. It’s a matter of any. The critical votes have been very close. It’s also if you convince others not to vote or vote 3rd party. So criticizing the democrats has to be done carefully in the right context.
And the trick would be removing money from politics; and removing money controlled bias of mass media.
I didn’t say they were the good guys. They are better. And that is the salient fact when it’s a two party system. They are beholden to the billionaires but they pull more to the left than the gop. It is because they’re financed by the billionaires that they can’t go too progressive or else they lose their funding (and ability to get elected). And they’re not pedo supporting, full on fascist and bat shit crazy which is also a good thing. But idiots who fall for the right wing propaganda see them as as bad or worse than the gop. Those who get confused and become too unmotivated / lazy to vote are just as bad. You can certainly argue the democrats aren’t progressive enough, and I totally agree with that; but they are monumentally better than the gop right now. Not voting for the dems is cutting off your nose to spite your face; it’s stupid. That we have a Republican government is purely because too many Americans are idiots and fall for the right wing media.
Yes. And yet you’ll get banned from plenty of lemmy subs for saying it.
But the democrats are the ones that have an organization in place in the U.S. that can affect change. Those with more progressive ideals keep stinging them and they sink. As a result we have right wing fascism. Congrats.
At this point not telling people to stay home from voting isn’t good enough. It’s great to discuss different views. But especially when heaping criticism, you must balance that with warranted criticism of opposing political sides. Making a point about the democrat’s failure to stop the abuses by Israel needs to be alongside the context of the republican’s stated goals to flatten Gaza and turn the area into a trump casino. Otherwise you are damaging the democrats relative reputation and so promoting worse outcomes for the people of Gaza by helping the GOP. If you can help with the bigger picture while also helping with specific causes, that’s great.
More like Democrats see the progressives as the scorpion.
If giving up means you then screw over everyone else that says more about you, than anyone else. It may be reality, but it’s no justification.
Well that sucks.
