  • I don’t know how useful these kinds of surveys are. If you look at the survey methodology they only include voters which I believe would skew the results pro-capitalist. They also use some propensity scoring with logistic regression to get around the population cohort skew. Only about 47% of Americans voted in 2024 and 34% in 2022 (also counting ineligible citizens). Finally, first time voters, in general world-wide, tend to be more radical than last time voters. I believe class consciousness is on the rise across the US as the living conditions for ordinary citizens deteriorate, and they join the precariat part of the proletariat, but I wouldn’t put faith in a policy survey from the Cato institute for that.

  • Benjamin Dousa (the former leader of the “moderate” youth and the current minister responsible for international development) is a right wing hawk and the reason for this decision. There really isn’t anything more you need to know. He parrots all the same policy decisions as you would expect from an American republican who tries to hide the fact that he’s a fascist who hates the poor and minorities. He recently made a trip to Israel/Palestine and it was after this trip he decided that Sweden should ban UNWRA. We don’t really know what was said or who he talked to during the trip.

Please note that the current government of Sweden is depending on a Neo-Nazi party in order for them to stay in power. (NERD TRIVIA) We on the left lovingly name this constellation “Tidölaget” since the governing agreement which was signed by the governing parties was made at the castle at “Tidö” and team in Swedish is “laget”. Tidelag (which sounds like Tidölag) is Swedish for having sex with animals (SD == Swedish Democrats == Sweden’s Neo Nazi Party). I apologize for the lousy English since it is late now :P

  • Yeah, Sweden is going all in on military expenditure since our planned ascension into NATO seems to be giving everyone a hard on, despite decreasing security and increasing the risks of entering into conflict. Any alternative perspective is discarded, polls show a majority is in favour of the ascension, so no one is willing to drive any counter opinion. Military service is also expanded, the weapons industry is having a field day (if the stock market is any indicator). All in all a total shit-show with no sign of slowing down for at least a decade.

  • I think there is room for both processes if we’re to give Chomsky some leeway no? The capitalist basis, and the power relations which follow, is of course the “driver” of this but there are still differences between the US, which has essentially destroyed the world many times over, and capitalist countries like modern day Germany or Norway. Can it be explained solely, and deterministically, by the power expansion of the capitalist base? Or are there other processes, call them culture, or ideation, which exhacerbate the psycotic nature of the base? I believe so, but I don’t know if the word culture is best to describe and lump such processes together, but does that matter?

It is of course an idealist interpretation but I believe these can help in materialist investigation, or in the construction of a critical theory.
