Russia’s terms have been quite clear since the beginning of the war: a neutral, non-West-aligned Ukraine and the official ceding of Crimea and the breakaway republics. The reason it did on the night of April 26th is because the operators had negligently removed so many control rods completely from the core that the graphite tips of the removed control rods were able to displace water in the core upon being reinserted and make the already extremely dangerous power excursion situation even worse

There are still many RBMKs operating safely in the world and I think they have an undeservedly bad reputation, but yeah, they should be shut down and replaced lol. They lack many modern safety features, the worst omission being the lack of an outer reactor containment building (which may have prevented the disaster from being so bad). The design is impressive for the time and place where they were developed but yeh

It maybe wouldn’t have happened without the design flaw but it also could have been averted by just not doing one of the many negligent things that the operators did to the reactor

Idk what tone you meant for that exactly but, asking genuinely, why do you dislike them? I just use cuz they’re fun imo and sometimes help clarify meaning of sentences. I do try to be cognizant of where I am on our federated network and avoid using the ones that represent some kind of Hexbear inside joke lol, like those ones don’t. I know I’m not alone in using them for those reasons cuz even Reddit supports inline reaction images these days lol. I need to use tone indicators more, I feel like they should be normalized more especially on the internet. Way we write on the internet does kinda indicate tone (“lol”, “smh”, “:3”, etc) but it’s not explicit or in any kind of standardized way rly. You added “no notes” in there which is also kinda like a tone indicator basically lol

In Lojban, this constructed language kinda based on first-order predicate logic I’ve been learning recently, we actually a wide variety of tone indicators that you can attach to anything from single words to entire sentences. All things in the language can be spoken aloud too just like they’re written so you don’t even need to intone your sentences or use body language irl, you can just drop like a speakable emoticon while you’re speaking to make it explicit which is rly cool to me :3 especially cuz I miss stuff like that a lot irl and even more online

We don’t have a sarcasm or irony indicator (that I know of… should make one) but I guess you could use the humor marker “zo’o” (pronounced mostly like you would think but the apostrophe is kinda like an ‘h’). Oh actually, you could also maybe use the indicator “je’unai” which indicates falseness (in the sense of a logical truth value) to make clear you’re not actually asserting something, combined with “zo’o” I think that would be pretty clear indicator of irony in the sense of humorously asserting something that’s false

The proposal that started all this was removing “/c/the_dunk_tank” (where you can post bad takes and mock them however you like but they can’t be the bad takes of nobodies, so basically like shit_reactionaries_say) and “/c/the_dredge_tank” (for posting the bad takes of anyone, this was made after people got tired of seeing the lowest effort, repetitive, bad takes from random people so they could block the comm if they want) entirely and replacing them with “/c/counterpropaganda” (for posting instances of any reactionary rhetoric under the conditions that your post also had to include an essay countering the rhetoric) and “/c/gossip” (for posting only public figures’ bad takes, without the essay), the arguments for and against are in the 1200 reply struggle sesh post lol

Idk, I get the intention behind it but it became clear this was poorly thought out and was not what most of the userbase (or the most active?) wanted. In the past certain issues like this have been resolved by purges (like our mandatory pronouns and anti-transphobia and anti-misogyny stances) of anyone who disagreed or couldn’t self-crit but this one does seem much more aimless and less concrete to me, to the extent it is even serious, tbh, idk :/
