Bready@lemmy.world•Why centuries-old bread techniques are making a surprising comeback in home kitchensEnglish
0·10 months agoAh gotcha. That’s fair enough. I’ve never tried it before but apparently drying out the starter is a way to make it last for long periods of time and then be quick to refresh.

0·10 months agoI keep a 60g starter in my fridge and only feed it when I want to make a loaf (every 2-3 weeks). Pretty much zero waste and super low maintenance :) keeping a bigger starter might look cool but practically speaking you don’t need anything huge.

FoodPorn@lemmy.world•Serrano cheddar sourdough. You bite the bread, the bread bites back.English
2·1 year agoAbout 24 hours in total but only about an hour or so of actively working on it. I feed the starter around 9am on day one, mix the dough at around 6pm, shape the loaves around 10pm, and bake them next morning.

1·1 year agoLooks great! Any reason you didn’t bake it darker? I just started making sourdough regularly. Definitely worth the effort :)
Don’t worry! We’ll go through the process of revising safety ratings to include people outside the car just for auto manufacturers to switch their advertisements to say “five star passenger safety rating” instead 😀

2·3 years agoHaha I would but the friend I bought the bike from is definitely is a part of those circles. I don’t know if he would forgive me if I took his custom built bike and immediately slapped a kickstand on it. That or I’ll just do it and never tell.

Bike Commuting@lemmy.ml•First day commuting by bike!English
1·3 years agoWent well! Definitely planning on doing it again tomorrow. It’s about 8 miles one way but generally pretty flat and all on paved trails. I end up on the W&OD trail at the end of my ride which is some pretty sweet infrastructure by American standards.

Bike Commuting@lemmy.ml•First day commuting by bike!English
1·3 years agoI mean the cardboard box wasn’t secure so it kinda flopped all over the place on my way in. I don’t plan on having to carry that again though and the ride back was much smoother. I’m lucky enough that my whole commute is multi-use trails so besides half a dozen crosswalks I don’t deal with cars much.
Thanks! I just got the bike in the last month and I definitely love how it looks. Rides like a dream too.

Smoke alarm let’s me know it’s done :)
Kidding. I guess I haven’t had that problem before. I just put them on a baking rack in a rimmed baking sheet. Sometimes the drippings get quite browned and almost burned but it’s never that bad.
