Yes, but that was never the truth, it was a lie created by companies marketing a product. A big difference between now and the then is we have access to the vast majority of human knowledge in our pocket. Much easier become informed on a subject now than in the past. Some people just lack the skills to do so, or choose not to and live in a fantasy.

A well informed and well educated population. What is truth and what’s misinformation isn’t really a matter of opinion. There’s reality and there’s fantasy, some people just prefer the latter. The government and myself don’t control the flow of information.
Free speech is about being able to criticise a government without fear of reprisal. It’s not a free ticket to spread misinformation, incite violence/hate or unjustly defame a person. Your assertion that free speech must be absolute or it will lead to society where people are executed for criticising government is a complete fantasy. No country has absolute free speech, not even the USA, as much as some citizens like to believe they do.
Barbie still can’t decide what to do with those annoying bangs.

Would love your must have app list.2·2 years agoIt’s a really great app. Very smooth works flawlessly and voice quality is great. Also very reasonably priced compared to competitors (no subscription).
I would also add KDE Connect to my list. Not as full featured as android version but useful to quickly transfer files/photos between the computer and phone.

-
Voyager - Apollo like web app for Lemmy.
-
Bitwarden - Password manager, I prefer this over keychain as it is accessible on all devices.
-
2FAS Authenticator - Authenticator app with a handy browser extension.
-
Firefox Focus - Privacy browser as well as an ad blocker that integrates with Safari.
-
FileBrowser - Handy for accessing cloud or samba storage not supported by the iOS files app. Has some other cool features too.
-
Mobius Sync - Syncthing for iOS devices.
-
OnlyOffice - Good Google docs alternative, makes it convenient to quickly access and edit a document/spreadsheet on mobile.
-
Voice Dream - One of my favourite apps. May be special use case, but great app to read and listen to books and other documents.
-
Obsidian - Knowledge base. May be special use case again, but as a student I can’t properly function without it.
-
HereWeGo Maps - Good offline alternative/backup to Apple Maps.

I tried this about a year ago. It was noticeably slower than the native chrome browser also a bit of a pain to manage downloaded files. Still pretty handy to be able to run Linux applications on ChromeOS. I used libre office quite successfully for a time.
Yeah, if their trolley fleet was due for an upgrade perhaps it would make sense. I do wonder how durable the plastic trolleys are long term being mistreated and left out in the elements.
UncleClerk@aussie.zoneto Politics@beehaw.org•High school boys are trending conservative18·2 years agoI can also relate, a classic libertarian utopia sounds great until you realise poor people exist. I think a lot of individuals are just afraid of personal growth because it often means admitting you were wrong.

I would imagine individuals from other social/cultural backgrounds experience far worse treatment. IMO NSW police either needs a massive cultural shift (unlikely) or needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

UncleClerk@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Robo-debt royal commission ends in criminal referrals41·2 years agoI don’t think it’s a culture war bullshit to point out one party is systemically corrupt compared to the other, it’s just the reality. Fact is not all MPs and public servants are corrupt. The majority do the right thing and want to serve the public. To say they are all the same is just plain, flat out ignorant. I do hope those responsible are held to account. I hope this will give at least some closure to the victims. Give it time the report was only just released.
UncleClerk@aussie.zoneto Australia@aussie.zone•Robo-debt royal commission ends in criminal referrals212·2 years agoThis royal commission is a prime example that ALP and the coalition are not the same. That phrase is just propaganda pushed by corrupt politicians (predominantly Libs/Nat) to justify and deflect their own actions.
A culturally significant piece of Australiana
I consider obsidian a knowledge base, rather than a note taking app. I use both apple notes and obsidian for different purposes.
